Apple ID as text message help

After moving to ios5

Everyone I text / i message their device shows my apple id which is an email address as who its coming from rather than just a phone number


Is there a simple setting I'm missing under messaging for why it shows an email now

its not just to other apple devices its anyone

There is a setting in the SETTINGS.app that allows you to select email or your ctn.

and if it makes a difference you cant respond to the text from the email address

Settings > Messages > Receive At > change your caller ID to your phone number.

its only

you can be reached for messages at

email:
add another email..

the phone number isn't listed anywhere

Is your phone number listed under your Apple ID? Log into Apple.com and look at your account settings to see if your number is listed. I don't see how this is even possible if your on an iPhone. It's gotta send SMS somehow.

dumb question: are you talking about an iphone or ipad or ipod?

Iphone 4 with ios 5 no problems before when I had 4.3.5 has my correct number under apple id .com
