So I got the following email which states that my Apple ID has been locked for "security reasons". I've gotten sketchy emails before claiming to be from Apple and was told here just to delete and ignore them. Has anyone else gotten emails like this?

Almost every day. The way I confirm they're sketchy is first they don't address you by name, and two if you push and hold the "Validate" link the web address has nothing to do with Apple.
Just ignore and delete.

Most likely a scam. If you are unsure, you can either go diretly to icloud (don't use that link) or call Apple. I would not, however, click that link.
You mean the "Validate my Apple ID" link? If I hover over it I get a downward arrow button to the right of it. Clicking that shows me an Apple page. Not sure if it's a real Apple page or not.
Thing is I'm getting this email in my Yahoo inbox.
If you are questioning the validity of that particular email, try to access your icloud account normally. Not locked, then send that email to apple so they can act appropriately.
I can sign into my iTunes account but that has my Yahoo email as the primary address. Same with the MAS. That's the email account I got the Apple ID warning.
Also signing into my iTunes account always brings up a Genius results warning. I don't use any iCloud services besides email. I did previously have iTunes Match.

Even opening that email just tells the servers your email address is active, clicking on the link just confirms that you're gullible. You'd better get good at spotting phishing emails because you're going to get a lot more of them.

Lets not get carried away here. Unless the spammers have hacked his server, they'll have no clue that the email is actively being used.
Looks to me the Apple logo is an image. Opening the email would download that image and show it as active.
Aside from the grammatical mistakes, Apple wouldn't threaten action if you don't comply within a certain time.

Not true since the image loading would tell the sender that the recipient opened the email. You should NEVER open SPAM emails that contain images. His/her email address will now likely be sold as an active email account to other spammers. So opening one SPAM email probably means you will get a couple of dozen more.
EDIT: After posting I see Mildredop already said this. Guess I should have keep reading.

I have since deleted the email. But if the email appears to be from say Apple how would I know it's fake unless I open it? If it goes to the Junk folder then the text is beige in the email list. But if it goes to my inbox then the text is black like normal.
- All Apple emails from Apple will be listed as from Apple or xxx@apple.com (NOT from @icloud or @gmail or any other domain)
- After reading the title (without opening) you should have went to iCloud or iTunes and checked to verify that it was bogus
- Smell test. If it smells like fish then don't open it. If real you would know it (no iCloud access) and Apple would send a follow up
