Sorry Im a bit technology impaired and need some help. My little boy have and Ipad for a few years and I set it up with my email adress. Now I got an Iphone a few months ago and used the same apple ID to setup my phone. Problem is all his games he download now get shared to my iphone etc. I stopped the sharing but now want to setup each device with its own apple id. Neither devices have any paid for apps, or songs etc. I use phone as a phone and boy just play free games on his ipad. We also do not use icloud or do backups etc.

So question, is there an easy way to change the one device's apple id, and keep the remaining apple id on the other device. Without doing backups, loosing contacts, photos, or in the boy's case game data on his ipad?

New ID means new content. You can import contacts no problem and pictures will be possible with google photos as a holding place until you put them back on the device.

Game info will go with the old one though.

Thanks, I had a hope it wil be easier. Just one more thing, think I will reset my iphone so the boy can keep his game data etc. I read somewhere that I can change the email adres for the remaining apple id. Is that correct? Then I can set up n new apple id with my email.

Then I understand with my limited knowledge how to put pictures etc on something like google photos and then import them back. Never done it, but sure I can figure it out. But what program/route do I follow for the contacts? My logic say I cant do it with icloud cause Im going to reset phone with new apple id and then cant import from the old apple id which will now be for the boy's ipad.

Just to add to my problems, I dont use computers alot. Just use internet on a tablet. Have a old laptop that I never use but its got windows xp or vista on, and my iphone cant connect to it, says I must download new version of itunes, but I have the latest for xp/vista. So I dont have an option to download stuff from iphone to pc and then back

Not sure of the changing... you can set up a second alias on that account and simply no longer use it. Don’t think you can remove the original primary address from the account. You could enquire with Apple support on live chat!

Google photos simply allows you to log in with a gmail account (perhaps create one and then use that as your new Apple ID?) did that for a colleague just the other day! So using that new gmail account log into photos and it will simply upload your camera roll when plugged in and on WiFi. Now only use gmail as your Apple ID if your concerned if all the addresses and passwords are too much! Otherwise you will be creating a new @icloud address and @gmail address for this lol

Contacts, what I do is log onto iCloud.com and go to the contacts area. There’s a settings cog which once all contacts are highlighted you can export to vcf. You can save and then email that very vcf file to your newly created iCloud email account. (Make sure you select all your contacts!)

You will need a pc for the above contacts thing but it’s a basic process so an old pc shouldn’t be an issue.

If you have any further questions or need me to clarify the above let me know!

What you could do is keep your phone/Apple ID as it is and then activate Family Sharing.

Add your son to family sharing which will give you the opportunity to create an Apple ID for him.

Log out of everything that requires an Apple ID on his iPad. Log back in with his new Apple ID.

Anything YOU download can be shared to his device if you wish. He can download under his own Apple ID/password (if you allow this) and you can set it so that you will be asked for permission before he downloads anything if you want.

Any previous apps installed on his iPad using your old Apple ID can either be redownloaded under your old ID or his new one if they need to be reinstalled in the future.
