Apple ID Help

I’m very confused and I’ve searched all over these forums and the Apple support website and I can’t find an answer to my question

I have two Apple ID’s, the one I use for my iTunes purchases one and my MobileMe one. I’m aware that I can use two Apple ID’s with IOS5 for iCloud and purchases etc, but to be honest I find it really annoying so I thought I would set-up email on my original AppleID and then transition everything over before June 2012 and then everything will be in one place.

Except that I can’t figure out how to setup a free iCloud email address with my exisiting Apple ID???

When I set it up it was an email address for example liz@email.com , however when I stopped using that email address I renamed it to not be an email address, i.e liz2005 . When I try to log into iCloud with liz2005 it tells me I need to change my Apple ID to be an email address…and here is the question. What email address do I change it to? And how does it decide what my new me.com address will be?

Thanks for the link but that doesn't answer my question about setting up an icloud email account on an old Apple ID that isn't an email address...which is where I am stuck.
