Apple ID - Is it possible to change from Gmail to MobileMe?

Currently I use Gmail for every thing; mail and Apple ID. I also have a MobileMe mail address I have yet to use. According to the Apple site, this newly created MobileMe (created it just before iCloud) is also an Apple ID - this creates a problem as I was hoping to use this MobileMe address to replace the Gmail address on my original Apple ID. Is there a way around this?

Next time, please search first. This has been discussed extensively.

Simple answer is no, at this time there is no method of merging the accounts or using your @me.com on your existing Apple ID.

We are all waiting to see how Apple handles this situation as virtually everyone with a MobileMe account is in this very situation.

When I searched, it came back with 'no results found'. It appears to be functioning now though.
