So before iOS 5/iCloud, my wife and I shared my MobileMe Apple ID (name@me.com). We then listed my wife's gmail email account under my Apple ID, which is how we distinguished her iOS devices from mine for FaceTime. However, now she has an @me Apple ID and we'd like to add her old gmail email address to her new @me Apple ID as an alternate email address for FaceTime, etc.

The problem is that I have deleted her gmail email address from my Apple ID account, but when we try to add it to her Apple ID account, I get an error message: "Email address is already verified for another Apple ID."

Does anyone know how we can add her gmail email address to her Apple ID, or is it forever linked as an alternate email address to my Apple ID?

It's impossible to delete and Email address associated wit an Apple ID. It give you the option to delete it but it's not really deleted. Apple need to address this and fox it.

My account was 'magically' fixed 5 hours after deleting the email address from it, without having to contact support.

I had the same issue with both my and my wife's accounts (removed address, and wanted to to add to another account). Contacted MM support chat, got passed to a higher level for both cases, but the problem was fixed by itself after like 4+ hours. Eventually heard back from MM support, who just confirmed that all was working.

It's apparently a bug.

I called Apple Support today and they said they've been having a lot of problems with various "services" related to the MM to iCloud transition. He looked up my account and told me to wait 48 hours between deleting my wife's email account and adding it to her Apple ID. So we'll see what happens.

My son had this problem earlier today and found a solution on google search. If you replace the email address with a different address and verify it the original addresses is then release right away. Worked for him.

Where is verification email sent?

I changed the alternate email address to a new one. I cannot log in to it yet because it is not verified. The verification was not sent to the primary email address. So where was it sent? What solution did your son find?

He was not using an alternate. His problem was that he had his primary email address associate with 2 Apple ID's and it was verified on the wrong one. He had to change the email address on the one that was verified and then verified the new one. That then freed the email address to be added and verified on the correct one.

I was just told by an Apple advisor that there is no way to unlink an alternate email address from an Apple ID. This sounds terribly flawed. When FaceTime for Mac first cam out, we added my wife's gmail email address as an alternate email address on my Apple ID so we could use he email address as the contact for FaceTime on the Mac and leave mine as the contact for the iPad. Now she has her own Apple ID and it appears we're stuck.

I probable do not understand what you are saying. Did you go into appleid.apple.com and login to your appleid and try to remove the alternate? I did that.

Yes I logged into my Apple ID at apple.com, deleted her gmail email as an alternate email address, then logged into her Apple ID and tried to add her gmail email address as an alternate email and it said I couldn't because her gmail email was already verified for another apple ID.

I'm having the same issue. Have you figured out how to unlink an e-mail address from an apple ID? My e-mail address isn't even listed as an alternate address so I can't delete it, but if I try to use it for a new apple ID it says it's verified for another one.

Go to Applid.apple.com and change the email address to something else and verify that and you should be able to use the original email address for something else.

The e-mail address isn't the primary e-mail address. It's not listed on the apple ID website at all when I log in.

I was going by your post that the email address WAS Verified on an Apple ID. So if not on the Apple ID you are checking maybe you have another Apple ID that it is used on.

That is the only Apple ID it could be verified on. Plus when I try to do I forgot my ID, it can't be found when I put it my @me address.

snow leopard?

Are you still using snow leopard and mobileme for any services, calendar syncing?

I have a suspicion that since icloud will not yet work with mobileme on snowleopard they keep it blocked out as an option. And, since the mobileme to icloud transition is not yet in place, it throws back the error.
