I have purchased a new black shuffle which I only use for gym and I was considering buying the Apple in ear headphones. How durable are they? I pretty much wrap my headphones around my shuffle and shove it in my pocket when I'm finished so I'm just wondering if they are durable to this sort of treatment or not

I'm just a bit worried as to the treatment they will recieve whether they will last the journey. They are quite expensive over here ($109)

Actually I have another question. Are the Apple in ear headphones controlled in the same method as the new ipod shuffle one in that they dont have a play/pause button?

If you are really interested in great headphones, I would consider buying some from a company that specializes in them. Your personal taste will affect exactly which brand suits you, but I have been extremely happy with my etymotics and they have announced an upcoming set that will control the new shuffle.

You do realize that the new shuffle is controlled by controls on the headphones, right?

I think the $79 in-ear from Apple are awesome. they work with the shuffle because they have the controls on the earphones and they seem to have the same buttons. they also sound great, and mine have gone through quite a beating so far and theyre still pulling strong

You do realize I included a link to a story that said several companies have announced headphones that will control the new shuffle, right?

Etymotic said “an upcoming version of its headsets will support the new integrated control functions of Apple’s third-generation iPod shuffle,”

And, as it happens, my etymotics have controls on the headphone wire that control the music on my iphone.

Sure they've announced that they're going to produce them in the future, but that doesn't help the OP who wants to listen to their music now.

Do they work on the new shuffle? If they don't, this is also irrelevant.

I have not found any Apple headphones particularly durable, but they have lasted me 4-6 months of the kind of use you describe (namely shoving into a pocket) before the heads separate from the cord or something frays. The stock headphones should hold you over until something better comes out from another company.

They're okay, but let's put it this way...

They are BY FAR the BEST headphones for the new Shuffle.

I have a pair of the ORIGINAL in-ears - the $20 ones - and I've had them for over a year. They've held up just fine and sound great. I wear them at the rink (when it's empty - not when it's crowded or on weekends) and they usually end up stuffed in my figure skate bag. They've done great. My guess is the new ones should be at least as good.

I have them

I actually have the newer in ear headphones and think they sound wonderful. However, I will tell you that if you are a bass-head, these aren't for you. They produce accurate sound and I can definitely tell the difference. I don't use mine in the manner you are speaking, I wrap them in the included case after every use, only time will tell if they are durable. Not sure if you asked but they do include an inline control. Hope this helps.:)

You are kidding, right? The OP is considering a replacement for an existing, working, set of headphones. They can listen to their music now. And waiting for the right product might be exactly what they want. After all, it seems that much of this 'rumors' site is devoted to determining if there is something worth waiting for.

I apologize profusely for suggesting that someone purchase a non-apple branded item. Clearly that is frowned upon here.

Sorry, didn't notice the question about durability.

I keep mine in my pockets (though most often in a coat pocket) whenever I am not using them. I wouldn't put them in a back pocket and sit on them, nor in a very tight front pocket, but short of that, they seem to hold up very well. At least they have for me, and I bought them the day they were released. Not my favorite headphones, but far far better than the cheaper Apple headphones.
