I went to the Apple Store today to get a replacement set of the Apple In-Ear headphones due to the right earbud not working. Also, the rubber parts around the earbud have become detached because of the amount they are used. They said that the won't replace them. However, I have seen problems like this on other forums and they have been replaced no problem.

Has anyone else had problems like this? What do you think I should do? Go to the Apple store and try again, send them directly to Apple, or just get a new pair?

The right earbud not working may be due to debris in the removable screen. I have to use compressed air on mine every now and then and it works a charm.

You can't very well blame them for not replacing them if they are worn from use, though.

^ Yeah but how long should these last? Really? If they're less than a year old then why wouldn't it be reasonable to anticipate you'd be covered if they malfunction?

The guy I spoke to was very sympathetic and said I would likely get them replaced, however he went over to speak to some other members of staff who disagreed and then came to the decision that they should not be replaced. I got no reason as to why they wouldn't replace them. Should I just go in and try another member of staff?

Yes. Possibly another store. This is the first I have heard of the democratic process taking place at the Apple Store.

If they're actually worn from use, why should they replace them? Imagine if everything that was used got replaced.

I read it as the rubber part is worn from use but the actual failure of sound omitting from the earbud itself sounds like it's a malfunction.

Are these the older apple in-ear head phones or the new ones with the mic on the cord?

I purchased a pair of the old style back in november of last year, right before they were discontinued. The left audio cut out on them, so I sent them in to be replaced, Apple shipped me out a new pair in February. That pair just had the same thing happen to them. Left earphone went out, so I called apple again.

Initially they refused to replace them, saying that the replacement only had a 90 day warranty from the date of replacement. After some debate, and me stating that I should be covered under the original 1 yr warranty, the guy sent out another pair. Just got the replacement pair this morning.

In all honest, I think the old apple in-ear headphones are built terribly, but they fit well, and sound decent.

Hopefully Apple will take care of you as well.

because headphones should work for more than a year with normal use. If he seriously abused them then ok, but if they just die after less than a year of normal wearing?

I have only had them for around 6 months. They get used everyday but only get used at home and school. I think this is a widespread problem as I have seen posts on Apple's discussion boards reporting the same thing, that the rubber has come off at the earbuds and/or the earbuds failing completely.

Apple headphones are not known for longevity.

Try again.
Perhaps the freebies that come with devices but these are $80 in-ears. They've not been out long enough to know how long they can really last. As it stands it is < 12 months.

I've had the same problem with my new in-ears. The right ear bud has completely stopped working. It first started making a popping noise then it started to cut out and come back on, now it has just completely died.
