Is anyone else noticing that basically no apple store have any m1 max units in stock in either color? I’ve been checking constantly all over Ohio and even in California (just to see) on the inventory checker on apple.com and literally there hasn’t been anything. I know there is a supply chain issue, but geeeeeez.

Was curious about that and couldn't see any of the 16" in any config in any store within the US at this time. Lucky for the folks who ordered early or picked one up in store when they did.

Maybe try Best Buy or Costco as another option.

Weird timing... I just snagged a 16" M1 Max online at the same time the OP made his post. It is available for local pick up today.

These have been scare though. I noticed there was one locally last week as well, but they go fast.

The local Apple Store's are getting various configurations of MacBook Pros for their inventory, but they get purchased very fast. If you want to find one locally then you simply need to re-check often. They don't receive these every day, and they don't necessarily know ahead of time what they might be receiving in their daily shipments, so you have to wait until they update their inventory as they receive them.

I'm watching the 14" availability at my closest Apple Store and this is what I am noticing. I'm sure it is similar for the 16".

I went through the same process when I purchased new iPhone 13 Pro Max recently, and was able to purchase within just a couple of days after I started checking regularly.

People are beginning to have their online orders cancelled do to lack of inventory. Inventory is getting pretty slim. I believe that the inventory in China is now whatever is coming off their assembly lines. I was able to get a base model 16 at Portland Maine Store on October 29. They only had one space gray when I was there, just what I wanted.

I've noticed the base model Pro 16's are virtually impossible to find anywhere but interestingly the 16 Max in base config seems to be somewhat obtainable when doing a casual search for in store collection. Seems the Pro is the most desired model from a glance, not suprised by this. It seems to be the sweet spot for 90% of users.

Are you suggesting that there have been actual confirmed orders that someone made online, for in store pickup, that were later cancelled?

I have a hard time believing that. I've ordered quite a few things online and the process includes confirmations of both the order and then when it is ready to pick up. Never a single glitch once the order was made (including of course payment).

Here in Texas I've seen more of the Pro chip machines showing up. They Pro's also tend to stay in stock for longer too. I've been checking daily for the past couple of weeks for a Max and finally decided to give this script a try - https://github.com/worthbak/apple-store-inventory-checker. This past Thursday I started seeing the Max machines show up here in my region at around the noon timeframe. I tried to order one but it disappeared from my cart before I could finish the check out process as someone else had beat me to it. I was bummed but kept watching the inventory closely for the next several hours hoping another store would receive one and sure enough, one did and I was able to nab it. A few of the other stores that received them outside of town were also sold out within minutes. I'm almost certain this trend will continue at least until after Christmas has passed. I'd highly suggest using the script if you want to get one. Good luck!
