Greetings!

I updated the OS on my iPhone 15 Pro Max to iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 3 this past Wednesday (August 28th, 2024) afternoon. I'm still on the Waitlist.

I updated the OS on my iPad Air (5th generation) (M1 Chip) to iPadOS 18.1 Developer Beta 3 early this morning (Saturday, August 31st, 2024). Almost immediately, I got "accepted" into the Apple Intelligence feature.

Why is it taking so long to get through the Waitlist on my iPhone, whereas I got "accepted" almost immediately after the OS update on my iPad?

My second question is about what I had believed was an Apple Intelligence-only feature--the "Clean Up" feature in Photos. I was able to successfully use it just now on my iPhone (you can see the tool in question near the lower right of the attached screenshot). I thought this feature would only be available once I had gotten past the Waitlist.

On my iPhone, when I go into Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, it just says under Apple Intelligence "Joined Waitlist".

Below that, it says "Support for processing Apple Intelligence models on device is downloading."

...Downloading since Wednesday afternoon? Is it really downloading all this time or is that just another way of telling me I'm still on the waitlist?

I've turned my iPhone off and back on, and I even tried this trick offered by BGR, hoping I would get access to Apple Intelligence immediately, to no avail.

Any ideas what's going on here?

Just to be sure: are you on WiFi or on 4G/5G? AFAIK the Apple Intelligence model only downloads on WiFi.

Also, Photos Clean Up probably doesn't need that same model, therefore it works before the download is finished.

On 5G but I'll try with Wi-Fi right now. That would certainly explain why my iPad immediately gave me Apple Intelligence but my iPhone did not.

Update: Thank you! That worked! Now, went couldn't Apple have programmed iOS to briefly say, perhaps, something like "Support for Apple Intelligence will download when on Wi-Fi" instead of keeping the user in the dark about the Wi-Fi requirement? That wasn't very, ahem, intelligent on their part.
