Apple iPhone Control Panel....

or non Apple iPhone control panel. This app makes the top 5 on my "wish it were on my iPhone list".

I think this app would please a plethora of iPhone owners.

Use the iPhone Control Panel to:
• Change Themes (skin)
• Re arrange icons
• choose system sounds for keyclicks, slide to unlock sound etc
• other stuff

I hope one day Apple decides to allow this or include it as a system control panel on my Mac. That or would hope IconFactory or some other software company would work on something like this.


I guess this might have been more likely if Apple didn't decide to creamate 3rd party efforts in a single patch.

Yep...that would be great. In the meantime, we have Installer.app...

Apple didnt cremate anything if you were smart enough not to upgrade.

I happily still have 1.0.2 so I have all these features on my phone.

I didn't have 3rd party apps installed on my phone before 1.1.1. so I wasn't at a loss. I was merely making reference to Apple's indirect attempt to decapitate the progress of 3rd party development.

If you wanted the phone to function as it was intended then you wouldn't care about 3rd party apps or mods. Or do you want to phone to function as you perceive it was intended?

I never assumed you did. That was a general statement; had I specifically been referring to you I would have quoted you like I'm doing in this post.

Some Jaguar apps didn't run under Panther and some Panther apps didn't run under Tiger. Is that Apple's direct attempt to break them or because of incompatibility in newer versions of the OS? So the question is should Apple never improve its OS just to maintain compatibility with some of the original apps? What if they were patching serious exploits, like being able to make use of everyone's identical root passwords via 3rd party apps which all install the same way. Possib not but we'll never know.

I still maintain that Apple locked the OS down again because of unlocked phones, not because of some innocuous applications (well except for an upcoming VOIP solution).

Could Apple have handled it differently, sure, but that's the way it went down and if you didn't want to loose your apps you shouldn't have upgraded to 1.1.1.

Hopefully what will happen is that when 1.1.2 is released people will think before updating so we wont have to listen to all the whining.

This was how it was with the PSP. The homebrew (hack) community was on the high tide. They had so much going it was sweet. Then threads started popping up, "I updated and now this doesn't work" what the difference is that Sony was trying to stop the hacking community by bribing newcomers with software updates that were rather useless. (I don't even use the Wi-Fi store on my touch, I probably wouldn't have updated if I had an iPhone myself).

When I got rid of my PSP after over a year of ownership, I had never upgraded it (though I didn't do too much hacking, of which I had it from like the first week of launch, vers 1.01 baby)

But when you upgrade, you can't expect much to work, you have to wait until the big guys have said, ok, you can update now, we get her hackked!
