According to the highlights page about Xcode 16, we can see swift assist coming this year. Because Xcode 16.2 is the LAST XCODE UPDATE OF THE YEAR… Apple is forced to release Swift Assist on this update… And the thing is that Xcode 16.2 RC might come very soon… I expect it today or tomorrow!

I hope apple remember their promise: https://devimages-cdn.apple.com/wwd...-AAA5-E039F7FE142B/WWDC24-Developer-Tools.pdf

It obviously should come out this year since they've said so, but I've written code for enough years without that I am not too bothered writing code without for another decade as well :p

I do hope it comes out soon just because I've wanted to give it a try... I don't know how useful it'll actually be for day-to-day stuff, but I like to think it'll be nice for trying to use unfamiliar frameworks or something. 🤞

I am very curious about the capacity of swift assist… I think it will come tomorrow !

I'm certainly curious to see what it does.

I have a love/hate relation with the Xcode predictive code completion - often it does really well and I'm thinking wow how did it know I wanted to do that? In these cases it speeds up the coding process.

But just as often it suggests something I didn't want and have to be careful not to blindly accept.

My fingers are constantly hovering over the tab and escape keys.

I just fear people relying on it, it hallucinating wrong info, and people not reading actual documentation, thus resulting in me needing to fix more bad code written by other people just blindly following "AI" advice.
I have that concern also. But at the same time Apple documentation on new APIs can be absolutely brutal (lack of content). I'm hoping this helps change that.

Yeah Me too... Actually I don't think apple forgot Swift Assist because it has been said again during one of the 3 Macs announcements I remember (I think the Mac mini one)

According to previous X.2 RC releases we might get it today normally (with iOS 18.2 RC) BUT I saw that last year Xcode 15.2 has been delayed to January !! Anyways I remember you that this normally CAN'T happen because Swift Assist need to come this year but maybe no RC and update next week? Xcode 15.2 doesn't seams to have RC but Xcode 14.2 and 13.2 are ok !

I keep wondering where you people are finding "Documentation"?

If you're referring to the Apples programmer comments in the "import" files, or even Xcodes "Developer Documentation" then I just can't understand calling it documentation as they are woefully lacking substitutes compared to Apples more classic "Inside Macintosh" series.

The Apple developer site.

For example:

I’m curious.

I’m a developer, but not a mobile developer, though I do have a few hobby projects for iOS and watchOS.

I know I can go read documentation etc, but in the evenings. I kinda just wanna sit and chill, build something, so if this can answer my questions without me having to google repeatedly it would be appreciated.

Though I can see how this would be frustrating in a professional environment, as more and more juniors rely on “smart” code completions etc

I genuinely just don't understand how it's any easier to write your questions in a prompt and read its answers than writing it in Google and reading an authoritative answer

90% of the stuff I search, the best results I seem to get are in video form. Which I really dislike.

With languages I’m far more familiar with, documentation and places like stack overflow give far better and more comprehensive results.

As I said, it’s a curiosity for me to see how I can use it, or if it’s any value. It’s not a “must Have” for me

Fair play. Video is good for larger concepts but not for “I just want the answer to this”
I rarely ever get videos for my searches but I can understand avoiding that as a motivation
