BF is only a month away. Why is everyone jumping in buying macs? Why not wait a month and save yourselves 100-200 bucks?

For me? Because I am financially stable enough that possibly saving one to two hundred dollars isn't a big deal. I'm not stretching beyond my means to have a new Mac, so having it a month earlier is worth losing any potential savings.

They may be guaranteed to have a sale on BF, but there is no guarantee what is going to be put on sale. They don't put all of their products on sale every year and if demand is what they think it's going to be for the new MBA, I don't see them offering any type of discount on it.

ditto. Likely to get products near the end of their life cycle discounted so as to clear out inventory. With high demand products there is no reason to cut the price.

Totally reasonable thought BUT.... some people hate waking up in the morning. The odds are that it will be a clusterf*** at the Apple store, BestBuy, or etc... Just to save $200 isn't worth it for some.Seems like all the idiots in the world are out driving in the morning on Black Friday.

But YES, if all goes as planned and one wakes up early and saves some dough then kudos to them. There is also Tax Free weekend for some states so there are more opportunities than black friday.

I know people that always go shopping on BF just to people watch and to be out with their friends super early while there are others who save tons and run their morning like a gov't business.

IMO, id rather sleep and not deal with ugly angry people in the morning and pay $150 more and have it delivered for free.

I thought BF deal was both for online and stores. But, I could be wrong.

One more thing that really bothers me is a OS lion. Because I still see there are number of improvements they can make... I think I will wait

1. OS lion will be more like 129 dollars, so you save money by waiting.
2. There will be new version out by then.. around WWDC 2011
3. Better specs and Better battery life.
4. Hopefully they will bring out the damn backlit keyboard back for 13.3 inch model... hopefully.

Apple always have mediocre sales. Glorified Student Discounts for everyone at best.

I don't think that apple will refresh Air before the lion is released...

Nobody knows what will be on sale, but chances are it's NOT going to be whatever you are intending to purchase. Not to mention, you'll have to deal with parking hassles, standing around in long lines, and having to spend time being surrounded by a bunch of crazed shoppers. I'd much rather spend a couple of hundred dollars now to save myself from having to deal with such madness. Plus, no waiting involved!

For some, half of a year goes by quickly and are willing to wait. For others, it's an eternity. Of course, things will improve over time. But if one has the means and want one now, I don't think it's unreasonable.

Besides, there's a good chance that Lion will be delayed, which is common for operating systems. (e.g. Leopard and even Ubuntu despite their predictable release schedule)

Blazer town!
OP if you can wait, wait ... 13.3" base model for $1099 is steal (if you can get discount up to $200 in some form)

in 2009 thanks giving sales, i got my iMac for $1300 ($1500 original price) with apple discount, credit card discount and some cash back...

if you need the Mac NOW, MBA is for you, it is still great machine...

but it looks like iMac and MacBook Pro are the machines usually on thanksgiving sale (not macbook or macbook air or mac mini)

Yes. There is no guarantee it will be a MacBook Air, unless sales are slow. The 13" MacBook for $929 is a possibility, as are some arcane models of the Pro.

Would there be a guarantee that the new MBAs would be on sale on black friday? I am not sure how Apple does these things and the new MBA just came out so what are the chances of these models be on sale on that day?
