Ok, Let me start by saying that I love mac, Have for years, and that is the reason this is such a sad tale.
I had been wanting to replace my Powerbook, and decided to wait for the next major reision before I did so. I had totaly beat the crap out of it and it took it like a champ! When the new Macbook Pros were anounce, I signed up and bought one that day, right at the end of the keynote. I said, "Hey i'm goin balls out!" and ordered teh 1.83Ghz with the faster harddrive and 2G of RAM. The best they had at the time. Then I was so excited , despite the news they were pusing the delivery date off, to find they went and revised it to a 2.0GHZ!!! Lucky me! well I was so happy the day it came!.......And here is where my sad tale begins.
I was one of the unluck individuals to suffer from the phantom buzzing noise the early MBP's were cused with. At the time apple had no solution, so few of us actually had a MBP, so few in fact that when I brought it to the local Genius Bar, all they could do was make a report so that it would be on file in case they later admitted it was a problem, this was after the tech and several employees spent 15 min in the back room with my MBP to "listen to the noise in quiet" They later confessed that they just wanted to check it out because none of them had actually seen one up close.
As time went on I was plagued with other problems, the faulty battery, the fan noises and had sent my baby back to apple 2 time to replace the fans and the inverter board? which was supposedly responsible for the buzzing sound. It was after this tat my MBP became possed. It would ramdomly try to eject the optical drive when nothing was in it, it would go to sleep when the lid was closed,. but not truly sleep hence cooking the MBP and causing spotting on the LCD. It would also go all blue screen and not recover when I would remove the DVI to S-video adapter and have to force shut down , as well as getting far hotter than the MBP's of any of my friend would under the same usage..
I brought it back in to apple 3 weeks ago, they sent it out to be repaired and I got it back 3 days later with a New LCD, Optical Drive, new Fans, and New logic board. Opend my newly reveved baby up went to work, only to hear that random drive ejection all over again. It also was still plauged with thet not so real sleep issue, and after buying a belkin card reader for the express slot, I found that the express slot did not work.
I went back to apple Genius bar, threw my self at them and begged, "Please, I love my MBP soooo much, there has to be something you can do to fix this for me! " The Genius(not sarcastic) went in the back and came out 10 min later with 2 sheets of paper, looked at me and said,
"This is what were going to do,.....were going to get you a new computer to replace this one, it will just take us a couple of days to get everything in order and get on as comperable to your as possible."
I then asked, "will it be the exact same one"
and he replied,
"as close as possible, but will probably one of the newer ones".
Yeah for me, In reality the only 2 points I will stick on is That it has the 2G of Ram, and the 256mb Video card, but other than that, I am happy. I will repost when I do get it, I just finished the image of the old MBP and am in the process of a 7 pass erase of the HD to try and make sure everything is gone off the HD.. I will keep you all posted!
