Yesterday I went to the Apple Store to purchase my iPhone excess max gold 256G, a Corinthian leather RED case for the iphone, and an 2 iPads for my parents to replace the old one they have.

The mall where the Apple Store resides is stark empty Except for the Apple store, it was packed with people at 11:00 AM on a working day! There were people even sitting around a table taking a class on the iPhone (Free class, never knew they offered this)

The service is excellent, high touch service like if you were in a luxury watch store. They greet you with a smile and immediately proceed to provide assistance for your purchase, answer any questions etc. I am always impressed with the service. Everyone gets the same high quality service (and I walked in looking like a bum off the street )

I have to say Apple is the Rolex of consumer electronics, from purchase to unboxing etc.. it just feels like you are opening up a high quality watch. This is why Apple takes the majority of smartphone profits while the rest, even though they sell more are scraping by on much lower profit margins even.

The Apple employee told me today was a slow day and I thought it was a packed day. BTW: The new gold excess max looks beautiful compared to my rose gold iPhone 8 (which my wife is snapping up rather quickly and already asking when is it ready)

If you can afford that then great for you.

For myself, I always knew it would be an expense and every iPhone I've ever bought new was bought on a subsidy, lease or installment plan.

But at a certain point I decided that if Apple is not going to make devices I like and is going to continue locking down iOS and is going to continue to offer 'features' that are irrelevant to me then I am not going to pay their Rolex prices.

Nothing they have offered since the iPhone 5 or post iOS 6 has had anything of interest to me.

PS. Unlike old Rolex watches where the company celebrates their durability and styling, Apple has no such appreciation for old Macs or old devices.

If I were to walk in to an Apple store and ask for help with my 2003 17" PowerBook G4 they'd kindly tell me to get bent.

So, being the 'Rolex' of consumer electronics and getting that kind of treatment only applies to those with current products.

Most of the times I've been forced into experiencing that monkey circus that's exactly what I've witnessed. A bunch of glassy eyed chumps waiting in lines with their problems and there were so many people there for issues they had to resort to sitting in the designated area for classes. There were still things being learned though and valuable lessons being taught...that Apple has been transformed into a bag of s under Tim Crook.

All news is fake.

I'm sure Rolex would take offense to having their high quality, reliable products mentioned in the same breath as the current iteration of Apple. I've never heard of a Rolex failing to work due to a faulty part like an nvidia chip or having a screen turn black on one side like the iMac, or leaving rings on your nightstand when you set it down for the night like the Apple speaker or the numerous faulty updates which cause it to have erratic behavior, or poorly designed build quality like the butterfly keyboard or the...ugh...I'm tired. Jeezus. Just no. Rolex they are not. Cadillac maybe, but never Rolex.

I have to disagree. While the unboxing experience is something that apple has honed, its more about the look of awe on opening the box. Rolex watches last years and can be handed down to the next generations.

Here's a handful of quality issues that apple has been grappling with:
Apple MacBook Pros:
2008 - 2011: Significant to catastrophic GPU failures.
2012 - 2015: Anti-gloss coating wearing off
2016 - 2017 (2018?) Significant keyboard failures.

Apple iPhone
Anntenna gate
Bendagate
Touch disease

Clearly Apple's has a track record is not stellar with the list issues with new products. Just consider how so many look/wait and guess at what the new "gate" will be with the iPhone rollout. I just don't see how that meshes with the ideal that Apple is the Rolex of electronics

Apple Watch and Rolex are nothing alike and are not comparable at all.

Rolex is a luxury mechanical watch. Their "affordable" models are about $7500, making them largely out of touch with the middle class. They will last generations. They can hold a significant part of their value, or even increase in value.

Apple Watch is not even a watch. It is a small, wrist-mounted, general purpose computer with 10,000 applications, one of which happens to be a watch application. The affordable models are a few hundred dollars, which even a middle class teen can buy. Like all computers, it will show its age in a few years, it will be completely outclassed in a few more, and it will be virtually unusable in a few more after that. These lose their value fast, especially the luxury models, and they will become worthless.

You might as well compare a tomato bush with a glass of root beer.
