Many Android phones offer an almost bezel-free experience. Apple is still opting for a visible bezel around the screen.

Here's why:

Apple always thinks several generations ahead when designing their products. Right now they have the notch where they are keeping all the sensors needed for FACEID technology and speaker.

In a future iPhone release they will likely be able to squeeze all those sensors in the bezel around the screen.

If they make the bezels impossibly thin now, they will have to make them wider again when they move the FACEID and speaker into the bezel. That would seem like a step back to customers who are used to very thin bezels.

This way the customers will get used to the few mm thick bezel around the screen and the transition to the future iPhone without a notch will be smooth.

Possibly, but it seems more likely Apple will put the camera components under the display. This is because you simply can’t squeeze a good camera sensor in the bezel area.

Xiaomi has demonstrated under display cameras are not only possible, it’s a much more elegant solution with a near-zero bezel.

Wrong. Apple is doing this, because of the display you canˋt really make thinner, evenly bezels. All those "bezel-free" Android phones have a relatively thick bottom or top.
