they started sale on 9AM EST, when people are mostly awake, either on their way to work, or at work -- meaning in front of computers, phones.

they started sale on 6AM PST, when people are sleeping..

come on, nobody wakes up 6 in the morning on a random Tuesday to check this... I bet most people who had 12/21 delivery are on the east coast...

hopefully apple will make up for this by concentrating store supply on the west.

yes those on EST have to wake up 3AM to get iPhone, but you know exact when that will happen right.
they never 'surprise attacked' you with a 3AM launch right?

Sleepyhead :) 6am I'm starting the drive to work, got to work at 7, saw macrumors post, and ordered for 12/21/ delivery. It would be nice to pre-announce order times like they do wth other new hardware, so people could plan. East Coast got the win this time.

You guys get every single midnight release. Dont pretend to be the victim. You haven't had to go to work after staying up till 3am lol
Dude, we get 3am iPhone launches and Sunday/Monday night football games that end at 1 am. Let us have our 9am airpods; lol.

yeah, but every iPhone release had a announced time. all you need to do is set the alarm 5 minutes before.

just imagine how you would feel if iPhone release is on a random Tuesday unannounced, and 3AM in the morning.

I dont have problem when they release IF THEY LET US KNOW. you can go on sale 6A, 7AM, 8AM EST, I don't mind, just don't surprise attack us.

just look at the replies, people were just checking websites/news in the morning, and realize it is on sale, then they just ordered it. the key point here is <in the morning> while some of us are not in the morning yet.

Yeah I was pissed too that there was no announcement but it's not a vendetta against the west coast aka where Apple is located

I was commuting (an hour or so) into work this morning when the announcement dropped. By the time I got to work and ordered, I'm Jan 12th. Blech. But hey, finally a light at the end of the dark darrrrrrk no information tunnel, I guess.

Even worse for those of us in Hawaii... I ordered at 6:44am and was already in the 12 January group – they'd been on sale since 4am HST! Here's hoping one of the local resellers gets some inventory quicker...

What are you talking about, Apple first teased then disregarded everyone not just West coast by releasing a limited quantity of AirFlops. Nothing West coast people could have done.

They will be in stores next week.
I have a January deliver date because I ordered pretty late (11PM) est. But I'll definitely check out in stores to see if I can pick one up before my pre order.

That's the boat I'm in. I'm off Monday, so I'm thinking about standing in line to see if the store near me gets any in stock that morning. Time to start stalking the Apple Stores again to see if I can beat my Jan 12th date. :D

I was honestly very lucky, was just browsing Facebook at 10am and saw a cultofmac post saying they were out...ordered them asap...got a dec 20 delivery date...

Had no idea so many people were so interested and exited about them...

I live in Montreal btw (EST)

I happen to get up early and saw the alert on my phone from Apple Insider and did the same thing. I wanted to use a different payment method from my Apple Pay but didn't want to lose the 12/21 delivery so I just completed the order. The only reason I knew to keep an eye out was because of Gruber's podcast from the week before where he said it was almost certainly in the next few days. I understand though where this thread is coming from. Usually everything launches (with the exception of the iPhone pre-orders) on a Tuesday at about 9 or 10 am Pacific (Apple Standard Time) so this was a bit unusual for them.
