Hi all, just curious you’re experience with Apple’s software license duration. As in, if I buy Final Cut, or Logic, typically how long until Apple says “we’ve released a new update that’s big enough to warrant an upgrade fee.”

Because I assume you don’t get to buy a piece of software in 2016 and use it until 2059 with all updates in between at no charge.

I do understand once I purchase the current version of software it’s mine forever. It’s more a question of how frequently do they want money for upgrades.

Thanks!

I am pretty sure it IS a once only payment.
I don't remember seeing any upgrades since they sold physical media for the likes of FCP.

The only limitation is a newer version usually requires the latest version of MacOS.

That's the way it has always worked for me. I've only paid for them once (since El Capitan) and the upgrades have been free since then. The only drawback is that they cut off older versions of macOS pretty quick.
