iPod Apple Lossless for Ipod

Although Ive never actually tried it, so cant comment on the batt issue. I think they should work.
Yes it works! The battery life is driven by the drive and use. The format doesn't seem to be a measurable factor.
How many songs do you have in your ipod? Do you have all of your Apple Lossless songs in your computer or in an external harddrive?
Wouldn't bigger file sizes cause the hard drive to work more, resulting in less battery life?
It's not as big a problem as it used to be, but it does still have a noticeable impact on battery life, and there is of course the storage issue. I don't have a Classic anymore, and can't tell you exactly how it saps the battery life - but the classic, being an HDD player, would be the most badly affected (ironically).
Personally on a portable machine it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, although if you intend to use ALACs at home then it is probably the only easy-to-handle way of managing your library. I take the hard way to maintain an interlinked FLAC and MP3 library, and combined with some of iTunes' foibles it can be a freakin' nightmare, but I still find myself gravitating to the evil iTunes.

I'm thinking about ripping my 500 cds to apple lossless and AAC. ALAC for itunes and AAC 256 VBR for Ipod.
I have noticed that when I create new AAC from Apple Lossless file, Itunes automatically duplicates the song into the same library and the same folder/location in my computer.
Is there any way I can stop itunes from doing this? I want to convert all my ripped ALAC files into AAC for my ipod, but I as I convert them, I don't want itunes to store the AAC files in the same location and the same library. I will have a lot of erasing to do because it creates duplicates.
I tried creating a new library, but I still have to import the ALAC files, and it is basically the same thing.
What can I do?
Well - you can do a mass select and uncheck files for example. There are various different ways to skin the lossless + lossy cat, but all of the ways are hassleladen.
