Apple Macbook Discoloration issues??

I am assuming this is most evident in white macbooks....anyone have this problem? i just ordered mine and was not happy to see this!

Never seen it that bad. But the Powerbook used to discolor after a few years of use where your hands would rest on it. but it was never that bad.


Sure that laptop isnt Micheal Jackson's and its just makeup.
 
For what it is worth, my friends G4 14" iBook has discolouration much worse than that. It's about 9 months old, but showed such signs within just a few months. He's a guy.

On the other hand a another friend (a girl this time) has a much older 12" iBook G3, which are sort of silver, not white, and it looks pristine even though it is used every day at work (for 3+year, I guess)

You can draw your own correlation...
 
they only get dirty if you don't take care of 'em. It's white plastic; if you use it with dirty hands, it's going to show dirt. Come on, let's be serious here. :rolleyes:
 
Doesn't sound good. Sounds like porous plastic (or plastic gases not yet offgassed) reacting with skin oils. If anyone has one and is starting to experience this, (and wouldn't mind being a guinea pig with a new expensive toy) try treating a small section with "303 Protectant". It's an aerospace developed product primarily used in marine/outdoor applications for UV protection. No oils or silicone. They also make a cleaner but I haven't tried it. I doubt 303 would restore already damaged plastic, but 303 does penetrate and bond so might prevent further discoloration.
 
I have an ibook G4. It has not discoloured badly because i have taken care of it. It does however have slightly grey patches and the trackpad has become shiny as it has been polished by grease on my fingers.

if you read the forum on apples support page apparently it doesn't work.....
