Hey! So i am literally buying my imac on tuesday, and i was wondering wether i should get a wireless or wired mouse and keyboard.

The wired ones don't need batteries, but i don't like the look of the mouse much... Can anyone tell me how long the wireless keyboard and mouse can hold a battery charge?

Hey! So i am literally buying my imac on tuesday, and i was wondering wether i should get a wireless or wired mouse and keyboard.

The current wired keyboard also has a numeric keypad and arrow keys both of which I like to use. The batteries in the wireless keyboard last for months. I don't know exactly how long but it they do last a long time. I put long life batteries rather than rechargeables in it. The mouse batteries don't last as long. I use an old G5 iMac wireless full keyboard and wired Apple mouse with my 2007 iMac. I had some trouble with the keyboard pairing on the G5 iMac but it works fine with the newer iMac.

Having wireless also keeps more of the USB ports free for alternative uses.

I use the wireless keyboard and mouse. Using Apple's supplied batteries and charger, the keyboard batteries generally last around 6 weeks (used normal working hours) between charges. The Mouse batteries a little less - maybe 3-4 weeks.

The wired keyboard is great too, but avoid the wired mouse - the scroll ball gets gummed up very easily.

I have the wired KB and wireless Mighty Mouse. Pass on the wired mouse, my wireless version has had plenty of issues. I'm not a big fan of the Magic Mouse either, but it's the better choice of the two. As for KB, that depends. I have wired for the numeric pad, and I generally like the feel of it better. Plus it takes one USB port and gives you two. If you don't need the num pad, then I'd just get wireless.

It will come with the wired keyboard, and mouse.

I still use the wired keyboard, but switched to the Logitech mouse. Really couldn't see switching to a wireless keyboard as the one that comes with the Mac works just fine, however, the mouse is in a word "Junk."

They now come standard with the wireless KB and mouse. You can only get the wired with it if you order online, or maybe some stores stock those, but it's not likely.

Wired Keyboard:
+ numeric keypad
+ no batteries to replace/recharge
+ right-side Control key
+ larger Control, Option, Command, Space, and Arrow keys
+ seven more Function keys (F13-F19)
+ Page Up, Page Down, Home and End keys
+ adds one USB port (uses one in back, but gives you two up front)
- wired
- it's wider

Wireless Keyboard:
+ wireless
+ it's narrower
= frees a USB port on the back of your iMac but gives you none up front
- no numeric keypad
- missing and smaller size keys (see above)
- needs batteries every so often

For me, the wired keyboard is the winner. I never feel the need to move my keyboard more than an inch or two, so I don't really notice the wire.

Not so true of the mouse, however. I've used the Apple wired Mighty Mouse and a Logitech MX620 wireless mouse each for a year and half, and vastly prefer the latter. The mouse wire was a minor annoyance and I actually liked the Mighty Mouse's tiny scroll ball, even though it required a quick and easy cleaning procedure fairly often. No, for me the big problem was getting reliable right-clicks out of it. Also, I now realize what I was missing as it doesn't have any extra programmable buttons like my Logitech. The MX620 and its configuration software has worked flawlessly for me under OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard and I love it. I chose the Logitech after trying the Magic Mouse in my local Apple store, and glad I did.

Good luck!

I prefer the wired keyboard. I like the apple keyboard so much I bought one for my PC and I don't even own a mac.
As far as a mouse, I like their magic mouse but for gaming it's no good so I have some other gaming mice here I will use.

On my iMac 27 (late 2010) I decided to get the wired keyboard and mouse.

I seem to always run out of batteries when in the middle of something or loose Bluetooth connectivity occasionally . I like the numeric keypad on the wired keyboard. The cables do not bother me.

I also keep on my desk a trackpad that I sometimes use

I've got the current model wireless keyboard and vastly prefer it over using either the wired alu or white versions.

I've also ****ed off the mighty mouse for the reasons others have already stated, namely the nipple getting gummed up and ceasing to function after only a few weeks of use, I now use a MX Revolution and haven't had any problems with either.

I also like the aesthetic of having a wireless desktop and the wires that are there I try and hide as well as possible. After all, isn't Apple a company that prides itself on design philosophy/aesthetic?

I'll be getting a wired keyboard with numeric pad and a Magic Mouse. I all ready have a wired Apple Mouse (Mighty Mouse) from way back when. I might actually continue to use the Mighty Mouse as I like having the side buttons for quickly accessing Exposé. But if I am able to configure the Magic Mouse to use Exposé with the gestures, then I'll start using that, if not, it's staying in the box.

Hoping to also buy a new Imac this week , will be my first.

I intend to get the wired KB as i use the number pad a lot in games so can't imagine not having one. I've seen somewhere you can buy a wireless add on numeric pad that sits beside the wireless KB but i don't like the look of that configuration.

Mouse wise. I've never used a wireless mouse and again for games i think a wired one would be better? Saying that while i dont like the look of the wireless KB i do like the look of the wireless mouse :)

Would the Imac recognise my fairly new MS wired usb gaming mouse if i just plugged it in?
If not , any gamers recomend a wired alternative to the regular wireless one?

Cheers.
