Apple Magsafe battery

I just got the battery from apple on Sat and my first use my phone was at like 40% and the battery was fully charged, after attaching it the lighting bolt showing charging showed up and I could see the battery status for the extra battery on the control pane. However after using the phone for like 30 min or so. My battery level for the iphone dropped to to around 30% and the extra battery was still at 100%. Did I do something wrong is there a setting to active charge etc ? It doesn't seem to be working as you would expect?

There is no setting. Only thing I could think about is that the battery is not properly attached to the phone. But in that case you wouldn’t get the battery percentage shown on your phone. Did you battery icon on the phone showed as charging?
