Apple Mail geniuses, HELP

Help, need some clues as to what has changed (in the last 24hrs) in my email workflow.

I'm on a G5, running Photosop CS and using Apple's mail application for emailing picture files. As of today, the pictures attached to emails have become dark and overly saturated, just weird colors. Please note that the image looks fine in PSCS and in Image Ready, including IR's Browser preview function which previews how an image will look on the web (right?). In fact, this color shift is seen ONLY when the picture file is attached to an email in Apple's Mail application.

whenever you attach an image in Mail, it'll be selected. Click off the image to deselect it.

Selection effect?

I don't think this problem is a slection-related issue (if you're refering to the kind-of blue mask effect that covers a selected attachment). What I see is a distinct color shift, more like a color profile added or missing to/from the image file upon attaching it to an email. Like, suddenly normal skin tone becomes rubarb--not a nice effect and not something I'd want a client 2 C.

Are you saving the file in PSCS with a color profile? Maybe it doesn't properly attach in an email through Apple Mail. Try saving the image without the color profile or has anyone messed with your computer, maybe set something different color syncing settings?

Just shooting ideas off...

The first thing I would test is your suspicion of a color profile problem. To test this, check Photoshop help to see if it embeds color profiles in images. If it doesn't, you've found the cause. If it does, try emailing the photo to another Mac user who also uses Mail, preferably someone with a different Mac model (so that it has a different default color profile) and ask them to check the photo for color problems. If they report color problems, the cause is most likely the profile getting detached from its image when it's attached to an email. You can try archiving the photo (using Zip, StuffIt, whatever) then repeating the test. If the second test succeeds, then you've found the solution. If the second test fails, I'm not sure why it's happening.

Email the a number of images to yourself and maybe another email account not check on your comptuer or though mail app. and see how they come out after downloading the attachment. try using any old image such as a regular jpg and see if the problem is still there. Trial and error on locating the real issue would be the best way probably. They you could determine if it was mail, PSCS, or the way the image was created or saved, etc. that was the heart of the problem.

don't embed the image into the email. not sure if you are using html when composing your email, but just try to attach the picture as an attachment. there may be some weird conversion going on when embedding the image. not sure.

Progress

Here's the progress:
1) Mail attaches the images with their profiles, but something weird happens to the colors.
2) I remove the profile altogether (uncheck profile box) and, voila, no color shift!

Question:
a) Why has this "wierd conversion" suddenly developed in Mail?
b) Should I care that I cannot now email pics with profiles?

No you cannot. "Receipts" are a SERVER feature, not a CLIENT feature. Mail is a client, so unless your mail server supports receipts (and the recipient's server also supports them), receipts will NOT work as intended. In fact, Outlook (Windows) is the only program I know of that implements them (but they still only work if both users are using Outlook and both connected to an Exchange server with receipts enabled).
