I was looking up Mail problem posts and didn't quite find one like this. Since I updated MacOS Sequoia, Apple Mail has become very slow to load new messages and it seems to be getting slower. For the last few months, it might take a minute after I opened Mail for it to download my new messages. Now, for the last few days, it's taking 5+ minutes to download and display new messages. I am not running a VPN or Private Relay. I have a fast internet connection. Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this? Thanks.

I'm experiencing the same issues. I thought Mail was corrupted or something but eventually it finally downloaded..This is crap !!

Same with me, using Fastmail IMAP. Thought something was weird with my connection, so I deleted and re-added the mail account. Left Mail open for a day or two and still has barely progressed at downloading my messages.

Suddenly today (the 14th) it has sped back up to normal speed. Have any of you noticed this?

If you DON'T have any POP accounts or emails stored in folders under "On My Mac", the best way to start over with your mail accounts is to turn "Mail" off for all your accounts, delete everything in the ~/Library/Mail folder (the invisible Library folder in your user account), and then re-add the accounts.

Came here to add that I have same problem. I just upgraded to the new Mac Mini M4 and installed Sequoia and my mail hangs. I have GMail, Fastmail, and iCloud mail connected to it. I do this so I can time machine all of my saved mail.
