I imported an mbox full of emails to Apple Mail.
How does Apple Mail distinguish inbox from sent mail when using mbox?

When you import an mbox into Apple Mail, it will keep the folder intact under Imported. If you want to move any of those mails into other folders, you have to do that manually.
