I just came back to the fold from using Samsung for several years. Obviously, the Android phone uses Google Maps. Google maps worked for the most part very well. I like to keep the audio on and eyes on the traffic for the most part.

On the iPhone, maps works pretty well except for one item so far - as I approach a turn it no audio says I am approaching or "turn left in 100 feet"...

Questions -
1) Is there a setting to adjust the detail of info for the audio that accompanies Apple's Map app?
2) How well does Google Maps work on iPhone?
3) When the route includes a freeway, will Apple's Maps mention which lane to get in if there is an interchange or similar?
4) Do you prefer Apple Maps over Google and why either way?

Thanks in advance!

All I am going to say is that I had Apple Maps installed on my from day 1 when it was forced upon us back in the day. Up until iOS 14 it had some unique features like an updated 3D birds eye or streetview. Sometimes, albeit rarely it gave louder and better directions. With iOS 14 that all changed. When panning the map, I get an annoying sharp flicker of the screen which is also present on my spouse's iPhone 7 running iOS 14 at the time and now iOS15.

Apple Maps to me has become unusable. Fortunately, Apple allows us to uninstall the Maps app. Which I did. I use Google Maps 99.9% of the time and 0.1% of the time Waze. I'm done with Apple Maps. BTW. I have been using iPhones since 2008 (almost 14 years).

Thank you for sharing your experiences with Apple Maps. I am curious, can you use Siri with the Google map app? If say, I asked for a particular well known store or restaurant chain.
