Anyone else think its a little strange that Apple is severing all ties to MS at the same time they are developing a full-featured version of OSX? Maybe its all part of their plan to invade the X86 market?

Not really, cause apple isn't severing all their ties to MS. You make it sound like apple yanked their co-operation away from MS, but they didn't. Their agreement just ran out is all. MS is still the biggest mac developer there is.
And you can be sure apple isn't going to invade the "x86 market". if (big if) they use x86 processors, I can promise you the machiens will stay proprietary, whcih basiclaly maens nothing changes from the way it is right now.
I assume you meant apple was developing an full featured x86 version, not just a full featured version of OS X as you wrote (which of course, it is pretty full featured already).
If marklar does indeed exist, its a fallback plan, nothing more.
