So Crucial have just released their memory kits for the 2009 iMacs...

(2x2GB) 4Gb RAM = £315.09
(2x4Gb) 8Gb RAM = £630.19

i know that if i were to go from 4Gb to 8Gb later i'd have to pay the full £600 for new chips but apple don't

Ok ... So Apple are charging £800 for the 8Gb RAM option ... given that the 4Gb is standard how can they possibly justify then charging a full £800 for the ram when in theory they should be giving us some value back for the 4Gb and charging a difference

I know WE know that their prices have always been expensive ... but to charge 25% OVER the retail price of 8Gb is just terrible.

Also the retail prices will come down quite rapidly, Apple's won't I think.

Yep, not surprising at all - same old, same old from Apple. The rule still applies - never buy RAM from Apple!!!

But Apple force us because new ones comes with 4GBs and that's why the prices went up

4GBs of DDR2 in last gen was 140€ from apple and less than 40€ from somewhere else
