Seems Apple store has no M1 Macbook, Pro and Mini in stock at all. Some models are even expected to be delivered next year. But if I check retailers, they have plenty of them in stock.

So should Apple simply have allocated more M1 stock to their own Apple Stores instead of retailers?

We are in the middle of a global pandemic affecting manufacturing facilities worldwide to the point that most major appliances are backordered for the next 2-3 months, nobody can buy either the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, printers are less common than an honest politician, and many Apple products (iPads for example) are in short supply at the moment. Also, most Apple Stores are closed, so sending more inventory to the stores would mean they just sit in a storeroom gathering dust.
