Apple misses Apr. 3 iPad guarantee delivery for some

Apple may be unable to fulfill its April 3rd delivery guarantee for a number of iPad buyers. Although several reports suggest some of the devices are currently waiting at the UPS hub in Louisville, Kentucky, tracking information for other shipments indicates the packages have yet to leave the manufacturing location in China.
Customers earlier in the week received notifications claiming the devices were being prepared for shipment or already on the way. The company also noted that customers paying for expedited shipping will automatically receive refunds, although the same document maintained an April 3rd delivery date.
UPS representatives have reiterated the Saturday arrival date following a flood of Twitter inquiries. "Calm your nerves," says MikeAtUPS. "Saturday deliveries will happen for all (minus a few remote areas)."
The UPS representatives appear to be referencing any shipments that have already left China early this morning. Tracking reports appear to be split, however, between devices that left early in the morning and those still awaiting departure. In at least one instance involving a shipment still stuck in China, MacNN confirmed with a separate UPS representative that the package is not likely to arrive on Saturday. The original order was placed before Apple delayed deliveries times from the original April 3 date (new orders are not expected until April 12th) and shipped to an area covered by UPS Saturday delivery.
As of press time it was unclear how many orders had not shipped from China and whether Apple would provide any compensation for the missed "guaranteed" delivery date advertised on its website and in both order and shipment confirmations.
