You're probably aware that not everything is available on Apple Music. For stuff that's not, I'd like to make my own files for mobile listening using XLD.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere years back that Apple used VBR constrained 256 for iTunes. I think it's probably the same for Apple Music, but can anyone tell me for sure? Apple support was not much help, all they knew for sure was it's AAC 256.

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish or why. Are you trying to rip your own CD's but insist that they be the same format sans DRM as Apple Music? Just go with the SQ and file sizes that work best for you. There is little point in trying to obsessively match Apple Music's codec bit for bit since you can't even be sure you are using the same original master (the MOST influential element).
