Apple Music designed not to only let you use songs from iTunes.

This is a backdoor way to get you to give up using all of your mp3s or make it so that you can only use them on your mac...that is if you want to download songs from AM that you paid for each month to your iOS device. It's kind of shady honestly.

I just noticed that AM is designed to only let you use iCloud music and if you try to put your mp3s on it you will automatically turn off iCloud music and then you won't be able to store the songs you streamed on your device. It's kind of a HOT mess TBQH. I hate to say it but this makes Apple's streaming service almost unusable. Now I'm starting to think I have to use Spotify and not AM....

The value proposition for AM is that I could mix all of my streaming bought and mp3 songs together into one playlist. I clearly am not allowed to do that with Apple Music. It's really unfortunate.

Yeah, you have to upload your collection to the cloud using iTunes. You can mix Apple Music and your personal collection, but you cannot sync by wifi or lightning cable. You must use iCloud Music Library for that.

I get that that might not work for you but it is what it is. I don't blame them for trying to put it together because it is definitely less intuitive to have to sync some songs manually and then add others from the cloud.

I *do* blame them. For $9.99 on Spotify I can make and save playlists, save music for offline listening, save music without downloading it, and upload my own music without uploading my entire library. With AM, for the same $9.99, my choices are to either upload my entire collection, have it mismatched to songs/albums I don't own, with incorrect cover art, and risk it deleting or modifying my owned music files on my hard drive, OR I can give up making AM playlists, saving AM music, or downloading AM music for offline listening. This makes Spotify the better deal here. I blame Apple for not figuring that out. I blame Apple for not working the bugs out of Match before they ported the code to AM/iCML.

Lol then use Spotify? I mean, the bugs are one thing. But their advertising/philosophy on this has always been "All your music in one place" or something of that nature, so it's hardly surprising. They're working to increase the library to 100k songs. I really don't understand why you would only want some of your collection in the cloud but I guess that's your prerogative.

Well, I gave some good reasons not to have my entire collection in APPLE'S cloud above. Because they don't upload my songs, they mis-match to other versions of songs with the same name. Because they FUBAR the album art, sometimes showing album art from other artists, instrumental versions, etc. Because they then change the metadata on the files I own, that I ripped from CD and painstakingly created/updated the metadata by hand for well over 10k songs. Because they delete my owned music from my hard drive.

So, yeah, I'm using Spotify. And I will continue to do so until Apple fixes this cluster.

Those seem like reasons not to add your personal collection to the cloud at all. I just didn't follow the logic of "it's ok if they screw up some of my library". But yeah, you should use whatever works best for you.

That's because you're choosing not to understand. If I can UPLOAD music, as opposed to SYNCING that music, then that music in the cloud is effectively a COPY and does not bork the home library or remove/change the source files. It's pretty simple and straightforward actually.

You may want to go back and read the original post and my original response, and maybe learn the difference between what Spotify does and what AM does. It's not a different argument, you're just choosing not to understand. But whatevs.
