Apple music downloading music instead of streaming

hi everyone,

I'm currently using Apple Music and I really like it. However since streaming several songs last hour, the free space on my iPad has dropped from 15,9 gb to 15 gb. (I haven't made any music available offline) I suspect that the music is downloaded when you stream it and it doesn't get deleted. The same problem is present when streaming video from the videos all, the movie is downloaded and can't be deleted afterward. Is this a bug or will the music be deleted automatically?

I'm wondering if this is because of iTunes Match? Do you have that feature?

I have been listening since this morning and looking in usage, Music has no data.

It's possible a certain amount of space is used to cache songs so if you listen again it won't have to stream it (saving you and apple bandwidth)

I don't have an iTunes Match subscription. On my iPad the music has no data either but as said before, my available space has gone down while streaming songs. The same thing happens when I 'stream' a video, it's cashed but doesn't get deleted afterward.

In general most streaming music services will use a certain amount of space as cache, as said above, to save you bandwidth when you listen to the same song or album multiple times.

It does appear to be caching recent songs. Songs I didn't download but had listened to prior to getting on my train were still playable. A brand new song I hadn't streamed that day was not available to be played. It's clever, so I like that feature of the app. I didn't see it taking up space, but maybe I wasn't paying enough attention.

Cool. And anyone worried about it using up space, I'm sure as cache it's configured to only use a certain % of available space and will be deleted to make room for anything else as soon as it needs to.
