I started using Apple Music a couple of years ago, mostly because it was free, and initially the recommendations were bad. They are a bit better now, though still heavily biased towards anything in pop and disappointing in how repetitive it all is.

I might like an artist up until they turned crap (Madonna about 1999) and yet no matter how many times I dislike an album Apple keeps on recommending I play something I told them I hate.

I have diligently liked and disliked loads of stuff on there, and despite this the New Music playlist almost always contains a complete list of music I don’t like. Then the favourites mix are not my favourites, but a repetitive playlist of anything in my library that is pop or R&B adjacent.

Anyhoo, I’m a bit tired of the whole thing so unless there is any amazing thing I can do to fix it I think I’m off to try Spotify who will give me 3 months for $2 too.

I agree the new music mix is terrible. I have been listening to mostly Christian music even new Christian music and not one second of hip hop or modern pop crap yet my New Music mix is polluted with that garbage. I just ignore the new music mix but I wish I could just hide it an feature I requested for years now yet still not possible.

I suspect the Dislike button does nothing. I’d like to be able to permanently block artists and albums so they don’t appear at all in For You. It would be handy with Siri too to stop it misunderstanding words and playing music I hate.
Example, “Play opera radio” and it often starts playing “operatic” which turns out to be an obscure rock band that had 2 albums years ago. If Apple Music was learning my taste it’d realise I have listened to zero rock music and a lot of opera including the Apple Music “Opera radio” station.

I, too, was once a fan of Madonna. However, her stuff did turn into crap. I am not a fan of Apple Music, but I do like Amazon Music. If you're a prime member, then it's an additional $79 per year, but that Amazon Music app is great. I use Audio Hijack to capture virtually anything that I want.

Make sure you set up some kind of two-factor authorization with Spotify if it's an option. My Spotify Family account got hacked and Spotify just let it happen. They were really good about getting the account back in order but I don't like that it happened and I've been with Apple Music ever since.
