Starting a quick thread to see if anyone else is having this issue

My setup is ATV 4K (3rd Gen), 2 OG HomePods

Steaming apps work without issue. Apple Music worked fine before updating to TVOS 18. Now it plays songs to begin with, then either changes quality, loses bass and become super quiet OR stop audio altogether but the music app shows as still playing.

Tried updating HomePods, updating to 18.1 beta and still the same issue. Restarting doesn’t make a difference. I know resetting the ATV is likely the next step

Anyone else come across this annoying bug?

I have been having issues with Apple Fitness on TVOS18. Been having to restart the unit every day to do workouts, it freezes and you can make a selection and connecting to my watch has been hit and miss when there was never an issue before. I'm going to do a full wipe a reset right now.

Same issues here after updating TVOS 18.0.

Not the exact same problem but after updating if you ask HP or a song it will reply with the dreaded 'there seems to be a problem with Apple Music'. Apple TV (4k) works fine with the same HomePods.

I had this before but an update from Apple fixed it. Hoping there will be an update soon.

Yes, I'm having similar issues. Also 3rd-gen ATV 4K, though no HomePods. Playing music through the Music app (either directly or Airplay) often just stops playing audio, with the interface still thinking it's fine. Or the TV interface still says it's playing one song, even though the album or playlist has long since moved on. Very buggy, and I'm surprised I can't find more about it on the web.

I kinda solved the problem by unplugging the ethernet from the Apple TV. This seems to reset my HomePods so that they now play Apple Music requests. I had to do this on both my Apple TV 4k's.

[…] OR stop audio altogether but the music app shows as still playing.

I have this exact problem too. Same setup; two HomePods 2nd gen. and an Apple TV 4K.

The song is still playing, but completely silent. It happens randomly, but annoyingly often. Playing a playlist of songs it will happen to maybe every 3rd or 4th song.

I’ve noticed that it is always at the point where there is about 1 minute left of the song.

If I disconnect the Apple TV and use HomePods directly (still in stereo pair) it does seem to fix it, but that’s not really an option for me.

I ended up just having to reset the ATV and its fixed the issue so far!

Thanks, I suspected it was the Apple TV, but I kinda hope I can avoid going down that route.

It took me ages to get audio synced for every screen resolution with my iPhone, and all the other settings I might lose is scarring me from resetting my Apple TV.

I don’t suppose there is any way to reset just the Music app on tvOS?

So the consensus is that AppleTV 4k plays the music even though it (and my TV) is off and I’ve just asked Siri on my OG HomePod stereo pair to play music.

What do you lose when you heavy handedly reset ATV? Just wondering about the pain of trying what worked for xiiblvck…

Edit: well I answered my own question. Watching bandwidth usage via my Unifi Access Point showed that the AppleTV downloaded briefly when the track changed. So I unplugged the ATV. Now the HomePods won’t play; they say sorry there is a problem with Apple Music! Progress? At least there’s no unexpected pauses or changes in tone! 😂

I rebooted the HomePods. Now siri says: There was a problem playing music, check that your TV [note, not AppleTV] is turned on and on the same WiFi as your HomePod. So it seems my HomePods now need my AppleTV to play Apple Music.
