Apple Music - item no longer available. WHY!?!

I originally had iTunes Match and everything uploaded and streamed quite fine. I then signed up to Apple Music when it became available and again all from my precious library continued to play and stream quite fine.
I , however let the iTunes Match subscription expire - after all why pay for the same thing twice as music allowed for the uploading of your own library (or so I was led to believe).
Now many of my songs (ones not on the iTunes Store) fail to play, I receive a prompt that "this song is no longer available"

Any idea why? Most of this stuff are Prince songs, clearly not available in the Apple Music library.

You're missing the point. I have prince in my own iTunes library. The library that predated Apple Music and the library that is suppose to sync to iCloud. I used to be able to stream my library just fine and now certain songs don't play at all. Not sure if it's why but seems to be after my iTunes Match subscription expired

Yeah many people including myself have had similar issues. I stopped using the service because it was so buggy.

I would I , but I tend to find that their response to everything is too do a restore and start from scratch

Yeah sometimes, but not always. They just helped me with 2-factor setup that I had issues with.

Exact same issue here. Have you been able to properly fix it?

See the screenshot below: I own the track, iTunes knows it and does have a physical copy of the file on my Mac. However at some point it matched it with its Apple Music equivalent, and now that it is not available in Apple Music anymore, it is marked as "iCloud status: No longer available", and while still playable on my computer it is greyed out on my iPad and iPhone and telling my that track is not playable. Really a strange behaviour since I own it and Apple Music is in theory able to upload your own files if it doesn't have its own copy.

A workaround is to delete the track completely form my iTunes library and add it again. If I do that it will upload my own copy to iCloud and make it available across all devices, but this is not completely satisfactory as because of what is likely a bug you regularly have to look for "unavailable" tracks and go through this workaround for each of them.
