Hi all,

With the release of lossless, i am trying to clean up my music library from old mp3 etc.
I am an Apple music subscriber and will probably be for the "foreseeable" future so have no issue with having "protected" music files.

However I am finding it an absolute pain to try and go through my library and then have to search for a song on Apple music which then opens the "browse" window (I trust everyone knows what I mean ?). Then have to click back or select songs (sidebar) to go back to the library screen.

What i am wondering, is there a way to open the browse window on an external screen and have my library screen on the macbook screen?
Then delete the "old" song in the library and add the "new" song from Apple Music without constantly having to back and forth on one screen.

I thought having two instances of Apple Music running at the same time may work but I can find no way of doing that (unless I am missing something)...

Many thanks and stay safe everyone

I don’t think so, but why dont you save deleting all the old albums till the end as a single task. You could do that adding each album to a playlist before downloading the high-res files, or adding a word to their album names and just searching for that word to gather everything you want to delete in one shot.

Additionally, you can add all of your music to a playlist and open that play;list in a new window.

Thanks for the suggestion. The new playlist option seems to be a workaround. Main problem is when trying to replace uploaded songs from an album with apple music, because it won't add until i remove the uploaded song. And because i only select certain songs from albums, i "forget" which one's i had when it opens the apple music browse section (old age). Maybe the renaming of each song with a number could work. I will play around with it, But thanks again for the help. I will get there

Give the tracks you want a star rating and gather those in the playlist; you dont have to remember anything when in browse mode because the playlist will be open in a second window. The process should be easy, select the tracks in the playlist, right-click + remove download, and right-click + download.

Another option is to do what I did, which is delete the tracks you don't listen to regularly, that way anything you download will be something you want, but should you want to hear the whole album later just "Show complete album" then download/listen.

It's not an issue with "matched" songs in my library. Just those that were "uploaded". I am slowly replacing those with Apple Music tracks. I find that if the song is in my library, marked as uploaded, it won't add the Apple Music track unless i first delete the uploaded track. That is the "back and forth" between library and Apple Music browse section. But your idea of seperate playlist window seems to work.
