Apple Music new user -confused...

Just got Apple Music but am little confused on how it works.

I tried to add an album after I searched but it said I must enable iCloud Music library first - why?

It seems confusing, to me, I thought I'd just add music, albums etc and it would act like a "normal" music library that I'm used to, but doesn't seem to.

Is everything that is in iTunes available?

I thought once you had Apple Music subscription that it would be integrated better with iTunes app on iPhone. e.g. look at charts on iTunes then just play direct from there, but it doesn't seem to.

Is there no charts on Apple Music, like iTunes Charts, just to see what's popular with everyone, rather than just me (for you) ?

Is there a "user guide" or do I just need to learn myself.

you need to enable icloud library in iTunes to add songs from Apple music

icloud library is more of a syncing/streaming to/from the cloud and available across all devices, so any music u add to your playlists will sync up to the cloud and be available on other devices in the Music app on iOS, or in Itunes (all devices must be signed in with the same Apple ID, and all must have iCloud library enabled) in order to sync back and fourth..

The idea. is you have one central location (on Apple's servers) u can use and listen to your music anywhere u are signed in with the same AppleID.. eg 4 devices all logged in with the same ID, and icloud libary enable on all devices, can see and stream all music from the cloud.

After enabling "icloud music library" in iTunes you'll see "For you" u can start browsing and adding music. More info :- http://www.imore.com/icloud-music-library-ultimate-guide

Why do I "have" to enable iCloud Music library though. Literally the first album I chose it asked. What if I don't want to?

Can I not just use it without just on my iPhone personally?

Lets reverse the question: What is a plausible reason for you to NOT want iCloud Music Library on since it is part of Music?

If you have any other device under your user name it will require it. If all you have is an iPhone (and no other registered device) then it shouldn't ask (but not 100% positive since I have several). But again what is the big deal in selecting it since there is no downside????? I promise your iPhone won't burst into flames.

Will this take up some of my iCloud space if so?

I just find the interface confusing at moment. Maybe as never used it, but I was hoping just to have some tab/icon for the music I want in there. e.g. There's specific albums I want so why can't I just add these and be there all the time?

I have Spotify and this just seems easier to use.

iCould Music Library is independent of your iCloud account. You can have up to 100,000 tracks uploaded to your iCould Music Library.

What did you think you were "adding" the album to? In Apple Music, you add albums, songs, and playlists to your iCloud Music Library. It saves you having to search again, and it makes this library available on all your devices.

I haven't used Spotify, but I doubt if it's much different in this.

Suppose yes good idea so on my Mac will have the same, didn't think like that suppose.

Was hoping to sort of see a chart, like iTunes at moment just for relevance of current music to see. At moment have to swap between iTunes and Apple Music to search again, not even a link from iTunes to Apple Music. Surely that should be in?

I agree with one point by MrMister, I haven't turned on my iCloud Music Library because I don't want the iCloud library to change the source of my tracks (e.g. my original album vs iTunes Greatest Hits album, live vs studio, etc) and the album art I have so carefully groomed in my collection. I subscribe to AM but wish I could add tracks from it to my library without having AM mess with my collection.
