My iPhone has been burning through data randomly this month. I reset my cellular data usage tracking in settings to try to find the app that is causing the issue.

In the past 24hrs, my “Apple Music” app has used 1GB of data. This is an issue because a) I haven’t used that app for almost a week. b) I do NOT subscribe to Apple Music streaming service. c) I have not even downloaded a new song from iTunes in weeks!

What causes the music app app to use 1GB of data in the background? More so, in that 24hr period, there was really only about 5 hrs where I wasn’t on WiFi. So in all actuality all of the 1GB was used in about a 5hour period.

If you don’t use the app just delete it. This way it can’t. You can just turn off cellular data usage for the app as well. You can still stream music without Apple Music ... ant bought music on iTunes will work the same way

I do use the app to listen to downloaded music. I don’t stream my music from iTunes. All of it is downloaded on my phone.....unless my phone deleted and auto re-downloaded in the background?

Yes, I did turn off data option which will fix going forward.

I’d still like to try to figure out what it was doing/downloading however. Again, haven’t used the app in about a week and haven’t purchased any new music in many weeks.
