I was wondering this too. I think we can expect beta 2 on Monday June 22. The service launches The following Tuesday. Would there be another beta a week after? Or will not get the second beta until around June 30?

Or is the Music app ready to go and it's just a server side switch? Seeing that the signup screen is already in the app, there's probably other stuff that's hidden in the current betas. I don't know, I just hope Apple Music is ready on iOS 9 on the 30th.

I think we can expect a beta 2 on Monday June 22 or Monday 29, no way Apple is releasing Apple Music later for iOS 9 testers.

I kind of think that ios9 beta 2 won't drop until 3 weeks after beta 1... Putting it right in line with the apple music launch. Ios9 beta 1 has a lot more stability then 7&8 beta 1... We could see more 3 week release intervals during the cycle .

My battery life hopes beta 2 will drop Monday the 22nd with the final app that just needs the switch to be flipped, which the sign up screens and other droplets in the last 8.4 beta seem to indicate.

My brain tells me they'll release it on the 30th along side the public build of 8.4.

And hopefully also the beta 2 of Watch OS 2 comes out the same day.

I agree that it's a server side switch. It's built into iOS 8.4. Its launch should have no effect on the betas release. Just like Apple Pay UK. It's built into the software but needs turned on based on location. (If you change location to USA it appears in Passbook.)

Yeah there's a lot going on in the app already. I'm seeing the Beats 1 screen in my radio tab, and the other stations have been doing things too. Still, I think only an update can bring the new app icon.

Which I'm guessing we'll see 8.4 GM on June 22 pushed to developers and maybe even public beta. Can't recall if that's common on .x updates.

I don't see Apple giving it to beta testers 8 days early.

With it being a server side switch (personal opinion not fact) I think Apple could probably get it to testers an hour or two early then release the 8.4 update at 1:00 PM EST. I'm thinking Apple isn't going to just start up the servers at 1:00, they'll going to get them going before hand and make sure everything is working and ready to go. This is the time beta testers will be able to get started with Apple Music. Then the public 8.4 will have the new logo.

As for iOS 9 I'm not real sure how Apple will handle the icon. It's really not like the world is gonna burn if the developers have to wait a week to get a new icon. But then again maybe Apple wants to make the devs know they are in damn good hands. If it was my decision I would release beta 2 on the 22nd, then on the 30th release iOS 9 beta 2.1 :D. It would be the worlds smallest software update of all time. The MacRumors iOS 9 beta 2.1 changes and improvements thread would look like this:

Changes:
- New Music App icon

:D

But let's not forget the public beta launches in July. Did they give a date? I don't think they did so that wouldn't change any of what I just said but if they did that would be interesting.

I have no idea if this post makes any sense because I'm really tired. If it doesn't just call me dumb ass and move on with your day ;)

Yes, that's true. I forgot about the icon.

I agree. iOS 8.4 will drop on the 30th with the launch of Apple Music.
I was thinking about that today. I wonder if they'll release 8.4 the week before to give people time to update and enable Apple Music on the 30th? Just a thought.

My money is on 8.4 being released on Monday, June 29th and Apple Music going live on the Tuesday.

Am I tripping? I'm certain that Apple confirmed Apple Music will be released with iOS 8.4 on June 30th. There was a slide and everything!

Yes they did say that. Apple Music isn't launched yet but there is a Apple Music radio station that appeared for iOS 8.4 and iOS 9 users. The radio station just plays a 30 second "ad" type of thing. We could see more things like this as Apple starts to get ready for the launch on the 30th.

Anyone else find the type a tad too small in the new music app?

Also, I've been using both iOS 9 and 8.4, and they have slightly different music apps. In 8.4, when you go into an artist or album, the screen adapts to the color of the picture. In iOS 9, it stays white and the accent color is pink. I prefer the way it is in iOS 9 because in 8.4 the tint color is always changing, and it's sometimes the same color as text. Way too much color in 8.4. Anyway, it looks like it'll look the way it looks in 8.4 seeing how it looked in the marketing. Makes me wonder why they differ.

Edit: For example this is what I'm seeing in 8.4. In 9 I'm just seeing the standard white and pink.

Also, I'm seeing artist pictures in artist view in iOS 8.4, but just albums in artist view in iOS 9. It's looking like the music app in 8.4 is further along. Can you guys confirm if you see what I am?

The music apps differ between 8.4 beta and 9 beta because the version of the music app is newer in the 8.4 (dev 4, public 3)

Personally I prefer the newer 8.4 version with album view taking on the art colour. To me it's WAY more pleasing to the eye and in many cases shows how a system wide dark mode would work so well. (All white all the time is A: boring and B: annoying on the eyes.) I think it's very slick to have a different colour that matches every album you're viewing.

Exit* Yes everyone should have at least a few of their artists with an artist image before selecting a specific album. (If they have an image in iTunes you will also see it in the music app once sync'd to the phone.)
