Apple Music - Personal list of missing features.

I've been a subscriber to Spotify for two and a half years now and personally, I've never "loved" Spotify but it has the features that made me keep subscribing. Here is a list of things I personally think they should add and or change.

  • Make it optional from start if you want a Connect tab or Playlist tab.
  • Make it optional to sync over cellular connection like Spotify. Hide it if you must Apple, but let it be an option.
  • Make an option to automatically sync all songs added to My Music/Playlists. Much more convenient than to look over all the albums/songs and find what is synced and what is not.
  • Under Music in the settings app, let us pick what kind of quality we want for the songs that are to be streamed or downloaded. Lower quality means less space/faster streaming. (Another feature from Spotify)
  • Let us control the music played from iTunes on our iPhones/iPads and vise-versa. (The Remote app is not a reasonable option)
  • Change the name on Mac from iTunes to Apple Music and the same on iPhone. (Unless the name is too long for iPhone/iPad)
  • Merge the iTunes Store app with the Music app. I still got friends that are confused because the iTunes Store app is separate, making them unsure where Apple Music actually is.
  • Cache the Album Artwork on OS X and iOS. When too many albums are added and you start to scroll fast, the album artwork takes time to load.

So thats my list of things I would like to be changed/added to Apple Music. I've been hoping for Apple to make a streaming service ever since I first found music streaming. But Apple Music is not perfect, but it has the most simple design to navigate compared to other services like Spotify.

Keep in mind these are personal wishes and opinions. Feel free to comment about your own, but let's keep it civil. :D

Isn't there already an option to sync over cellular in settings?

That would be so nice. The other day, Apple Music streamed a song over cellular to my iPhone that I had not downloaded, even though I have cellular usage turned off for Music and iTunes. I was not amused.
 
I would love a quality selected station for every genre. Like a big collection top lounge streamed as a station. One of my all time (ten years) favourite online radio stations is Groove Salad. An awsome station that makes me discover great artists every day. I would love to see an Apple station like that!

This is the only one I can't really get behind. iTunes on OS X is a "one stop shop" and it's slow and bloated compared to the Music App. Personally, I'd rather they decouple iTunes on OS X into multiple apps.

I really think they rushed this. Especially the offline listening. It's just not like the good quality intuitiive design of apple products.

Needs work.
 
None. Even current existing features are useless. In fact: all the streaming idea in Music app is a big joke. If they plan to make this app/service not as superb native iOS and Mac only, but for other platforms (android etc.), it can not work properly (and even look good) on each one. The same was with QuickTime, the same is with iTunes etc.

Does this still happen or was it a feature of iTunes before v.12.2.1.16 ??

I decided to give AM a spin but what I did was sign up on a spare laptop with a minimal amount of stuff of mine on it, and when I opened its iTunes I used the option key and created a new (blank) music library. That's what I signed up from. I'm having fun with it but now I'm actually a bit scared to think about opening any of my other iTunes libraries on my workhorse machine, at least if I'm connected to the net when i do it.

First of all I don't have itunes match and don't plan on getting it. I want all my metadata tweaks (especially in my classical iTunes libraries) to stay the way I put them after several zillion woman-hours getting them the way they are. Those are mostly rips of CDs but a few are from iTunes purchases. I do not permit iTunes to copy media files when it adds to libraries. I let it organize the library for non-classical items.

Some of my purchased music (from iTunes or elsewhere) is in more than one of my libraries, and that's intentional also, but I sure don't want to find any of that stuff mixed in with my Apple Music experiments. And, I think, vice versa.

So the main bottom line question is this: if you open, or option-open a particular library of yours in iTunes, and it has the same Apple ID signin that you used for Apple Music, but it's not the library from which you first signed up for Apple Music (not even on the same machine!), what will happen?

Does it look at your ID and promptly offer to turn on Apple Music for you, and should I say yes or scream hell no? The third possibility is for it to decide I'm up for it and start doing something I will not want. Don't even want to think what that could be.

I have backups, yes indeed!, but I don't want to have to deploy them... this is supposed to be a fun trial period, not a nightmare...

The one other thing I'm concerned about, as usual, is when Apple says stuff like "your music will be loaded to all your devices etc.." The day I want some algorithm trying to pick a few percentages of 25GB of, say, my library of operas into a 16GB iPod touch is no day soon. How do I stave off something like that? I already have all my mobiles set to not automatically sync anything to anything, and to manually manage music and video. Have I forgotten anything important??! Thanks in advance for suggestions.
