Is it possible to have "Automatic Downloads" enabled in my iPhone, but not have Apple Music Playlists (the ones that get updated every day or week) download?

I'd like everything I add to my library to automatically download for offline playback, but I don't want the Apple Music Playlists to download and keep downloading new songs every time the playlist gets updated.

Turn off add playlist songs in the settings.

Ok so I just tried this. Clicked the add button for my “Chill Mix.”

Automatic downloads turned on and “Add Playlist Songs” turned off.

When I added the Chill Mix all the songs started to download.

Is this just something I’ll have to live with if I want automatic downloads to be on?

Yes I think so. Come to think of it the option I mentioned just stops individual songs being added to your library when you add a playlist, it won’t stop ones downloading if you add the playlist to your library. You can always delete the downloads afterwards but if you have automatic downloads on them everything you add will be downloaded.

Dang that’s too bad. I’m gonna do an experiment tonight.

I’ve got automatic downloads turned on. Going to add My New Music Mix, delete the downloads, then see if the songs redownload when the playlist updates tomorrow.

If it does, then I’ll just have to download manually to get what I want. If it doesn’t, then it’ll be a viable workaround.
