Hi guys,

My wife and I have 2 accounts on our Mac. I use one. She uses the other. Each of us have our own iTunes accounts and ID's.

She recently has started using Apple Music and has downloaded several songs on her phone. Today she went into her iTunes on the Mac and for the first time turned on iCloud Music Library in the settings. But she got the following message saying it's already associated with an Apple ID and then "If you download past purchases with your Apple ID, you cannot auto-download or download purchases with a different Apple ID for 90 days."

I'm assuming this means that if I then go into my account and my iTunes I will be stuck for 90 days, is that correct? If so, what have we done wrong?

That almost sounds like a bug related to device permissions. It might see the Mac as a single device regardless of the user account iTunes is on. I would send a support ticket into Apple and see what they suggest.

Is the other user still signed into their user account as well as iTunes when the message displays? Have you tried signing out of iTunes and logging off the user account?

If you are using two separate logins on your mac, and each login holds the itunes accounts, then they should be separate.
I have seen that if you have the same account on several computers, only one can play at any one time, but not the issue you have said here, that looks like a login mismatch between itunes account and library.
If you do submit a support ticket to apple, then it would be interesting to hear the results.

Well, I've been told by Apple that it's to possible for 2 separate Apple Music accounts to be logged on to the same device. Even though there are 2 separate accounts. This is to prevent piracy. Seriously!!! How is this going to prevent piracy???? If anything, it's going to get people to download illegal music. Reason why? My wife and I are paying for a genuine service. But even though we are, Apple doesn't want us to use the service at the same time to prevent piracy. So, hmmmmm, let me think, who's now being the thief?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Cancelled our Apple Music subscriptions today. Whilst researching this matter, I also came across ways on how to get Apple music for near enough free! Am I going to do this? No! That would be akin to Apple charging me and my wife for a service but only allowing one of us to fully utilise that service! Rip off aim'm my way of doing things.

Wow.. that is an odd restriction to enforce. The privacy prevention reasoning sounds absurd.

Not sure what Apple is thinking sometimes.. I just spent 4 1/2 hrs on the phone with Apple Support trying to get clarification on a Genius bar appointment for a MBP battery replacement I had in a few days. Wanted to make sure the part would be available before driving all that way. Turns out the batteries aren't available till late February.. took 4 people to come to that conclusion though.

My cousin used to work in the Apple Store in Covent Garden London. The stories she told me were hilarious. It's like the way those classic jokes start off.... "how many apple employees does it take to change a bulb?" I'll leave the punchline to you guys ;-)
