Between the coasts
It may be an inconsistency, but a "problem?" The all-in-one iMac has been around for nearly 19 years, and is Apple's most popular desktop computer. While there was an iBook line of laptops for a while, that's long faded into history. Unless changing either the names of all the other Macs to "iMacBook Pro," "iMac Pro," and "iMac Mini" is likely to sell a whole lot more of them, or dropping the i from iMac and adding "All-in-One" (or something a bit more slick) is likely to sell a lot more of those.... why change?

Apple likes names... just what think its time for a change, you know whats coming...

eg MacOS sierra....
High Sierra

or something Sierra... as well.

Apple's probably lost that edge..as to naming. Its only what every 2nd year they do change names (in some products only) and no hardware new names, as they just follow the trend.
