I've noticed a trend lately that Apple has been bragging a lot about how they still generate the most App revenue despite their competitors growing faster than they are.

This is ridiculous.

Why?

Because while the competition is getting acceptance at 50% 67% or 100% more per year. Apple is stagnating. Claiming that your competition is growing faster than you but they still haven't caught up isn't a good thing. It just means that the gap is narrowing.

Apple has been a stagnant dinosaur with the iPhone 5 and the dual flash fingerprint sensor iOS 7 iPhone 5S spec bump is a pointless upgrade.

Apple knows that they are stagnating but they do not have the courage to cannibalize their own products.

The iPhone originally succeeded because it leap frogged everyone with a revolution while other manufactures stood still. Nokia and Blackberry both stood dead in the water while their market share was destroyed releasing pointless incremental upgrades. They too had major shares of the market up until they didn't.

Apple now is in the same position. For years the competition has been releasing better and better products.

Products with better cameras, larger screens and weather sealing against the elements as well as NFC for wallet and other purposes, wireless charging, etc etc.

Simply put Apple is not innovating. They are stagnating. And they don't deserve to brag that they are in 1st place because the truth is that the competition is outgrowing them at record speed.

I heard of several special features that Apple could have included in the 5S that were easily possible but were dismissed as being slightly too expensive or slightly too difficult to implement. Those are the words of a company destined for failure. The five features I heard of in particular that were dismissed for being slightly too difficult to implrement were the liquid metal case, sapphire screen, 4.2" screen in the same form factor, and higher resolution display with 9 pixels for every 4 of the previous display as well as water resistance with liquipel.

None of these things are going to happen because the people working at Apple are too scared to win and too willing to lose market share. There is no longer somebody sitting at the top who is willing to tell off the bean counters and do something great. To say, "what if?". What if Apple actually did something revolutionary? It's too bad we won't get that answer.

To take Apple's latest message to it's logical conclusion, the customers will get the same old same old, and Apple's revenue will be the same old same old.

Do you expect apple to release a press report saying "we know we are stagnating. We really suck and you all know google is catching up to us. Man, have we really lost steam. Please buy a new ipad."

We don't know what next month will bring.

Apple knows that they are stagnating but they do not have the courage to cannibalize their own products..

Apple, very famously, has never been afraid to canabalize it's own products.
iPhone killed iPod sales, iPad has slowed netbook sales, netbooks killed desktop etc etc.

Apple now is in the same position. For years the competition has been releasing better and better products..

Macs, Macbooks, iPods, iPads and iPhones are almost always the best reviewed products in their class on any respectable websites.

There is nothing wrong with wanting all the latest features, other companies can provide you that. Apple has NEVER been that company though.

Simply put Apple is not innovating. They are stagnating. And they don't deserve to brag that they are in 1st place because the truth is that the competition is outgrowing them at record speed..

Then when can they brag? When they are in second place?

I heard of several special features that Apple could have included in the 5S that were easily possible but were dismissed as being slightly too expensive or slightly too difficult to implement. Those are the words of a company destined for failure.

These aren't Apple's words

Restraint was always one of Steve's strengths, and he never rushed out products or just jammed in all possible features.

iPad 2 didn't have a retina display when everyone thought it would.
The iPhone 1st gen didn't have 3G.
The Macbook Air in 2008 didn't have a disk drive.
Ping!
Early iPod models had major battery issues.
iPhone 4 antenna issues

If any of these things happened today, people would say, "This would never happen with Steve around," well guess what, they did.

Revolutionary products: iMac 1998, iPod 2001, iPhone 2007, iPad 2010

These big revolutions don't come around often, we'll see the next one when it's ready.

Lmfao someone's not been reading the new....

Let's see... Share price climbing again... Android app store slated for its apps... 4+ new apple products before Xmas break.

Yep apples stagnent ..not!

Your issue op is your used to seeing companies like Samsung churn out 20 different devices that are all basically the same, the s3, s3 mini etc etc its pretty much the same but in loads of sizes. That's not innovative its just saturating the market to grab sales. I'll stick with apples yearly upgrade cycle thank you ;)

The day of Apple being on the top, all by itself are over. It has real competition now. That is a good thing.

Everyone has a choice, if you do not like Apple products, move on.:)

While the stock market plunged into the red yesterday, Apple move above the $500 per share mark! I guess you people know better than them.

While I agree that Apples non stop boasting gets old, it's important to remember that a huge number of Apple customers are followers not leaders. They are hero worshippers that feel most comfortable quoting Steve Jobs when talking about Apples product strengths. Or if not so dependent that they must prop up their position via name dropping, they still love being associated with Apple. It's an ego booster for them.

meh. i couldn't care less if apple goes bankrupt tomorrow.

i love apple products for what they are, not because they come with a bitten apple logo.

I agree with the OP

The iPhone doesn't need to be the best, or fastest CPU/GPU, or the best camera, it can be close to the other non Apple models that sport higher/better specs, but close. It can do, as it also brings its ecosystem.

But, the gap between hardware specs, hardware features, iOS features continues to widen. Its getting a reputation for being way behind. Each iOS just brings a few more old but good Android features that have existed for an age. Often we get the lite version, Notifications being an example.

Reduce these gaps, maintain them. Now and then bring along a small innovation. Don't bring out 5000 new features like Samsung, add the 6 cool ones. Now, not in 2 years time. Yes, I love my iPhone, but now, its just a phone, I love the ecosystem, hardware and software, but the iPhone is becoming less and less meaningful to me. I upgrade every year, not this year, I will look at upgrading my iPad3, maybe Apple TV gets apps and extra features. I already have an iPhone 5S. Its called my iPhone 5

Rant over!

Cheers all

Sorry, but thats a sad comment, fanboy based. I am a fan, not a fanboy, but irregardless of what the OP post means to you, it is actually factual.

Give us a 4.7 option, bring iOS up to date, add something new and cool, nothing fancy just something useful. Finger recognition?? OMG.

If Apple can convince the world, or at least think they can convince the world that they are the best, then why stop? Apple's bragging to me makes them sound up their own arses, but I can't say it hasn't worked. Just look at the amount of iPhones they've flogged.

You are insulting an awful lot of good people who created an awful lot of excellent products that changed the world.

+1, and he can't even spell Steve's name properly.

Right now this is all based on rumors and supposed part leaks. Will the new iPhone/s maintain the 4" display? Probably, Apple has historically never been quick to toss out new display sizes for any of their products with each new month. Has a working 5S with a fingerprint sensor actually leaked? Not to my knowledge. etc, etc,etc Dialogues like this make me miss the days when Apple wasn't so popular. Their fans and followers knew that they made cool things, trusted that they had something up their sleeve and didn't expect shiny new revolutions every 6 months.

Save this stuff until after the new phones are unveiled, until then all this does is stir up FUD.

It's like this, except completely opposite.

Apple has historically cannibalized their own products. iPhones have eaten iPods, iPads eaten Macs, and so on.

Don't take my word - from Tim Cook at AllThingsD:
"I see cannibalization as a huge opportunity for us,” Cook said Wednesday. “Our core philosophy is to never fear cannibalization. If we don’t do it, someone else will. We know that iPhone has cannibalized some of our iPod business. That doesn’t worry us. We know that iPad will cannibalize some Macs. But that’s not a concern.

Or from Steve Jobs himself:
If you don’t cannibalize yourself, someone else will

Apple could release a piece of crap and the followers would eat it up calling it the best thing ever. I don't think Apple can do wrong in it's followers eyes. This is why there will always be a distain for Android no matter how good it gets. Never give the enemy credit even when they beat you down handily.

I think it's kinda sad that there are people out there who think of the other platform as "the enemy".

And no, this doesn't apply to Apple fans directly. Every scene has a few people like this. There are Android fans who hate Apple because they think they're all shine, no substance. Apple fans who hate Android because they think they unstable poor copy of a much better product. Microsoft fans who...hmm...I dunno. They're usually too busy defending themselves from everyone else to actually get all self righteous these days.

The point is, they're just computers. It's not like they're nations, families, clans, or whatever, and there's nothing stopping you from joining the other side beyond a couple hundred bucks. I can't think of a single reason to get all US Vs. THEM about it.

I agree with the OP. I love(d) apple like 3 years ago. I have a Mac Pro, mac mini, 3 macbook pros, 3 imacs but they are all from 3 years ago. They all run Snow Leopard because every OS released after that has been nothing but trouble for me. The iphone 5 was a joke a year ago. I picked up the Galaxy note II and even then thought it was light years ahead of the iphone. Today I have an LG Optimus G pro and love it. My wife finally gave up her iphone and got one too. 5.5" beautiful screen, built in tv remote, wireless charging, SD card slot, removable battery, NFC, Notification light built into the home button, 13 megapixel camera, 2gb ram, 32gb storage etc etc. In comparison my wife's iphone 5 was a dinosaur. Just the screen size alone was enough to dump it. We do so much more on our phones now and doing it on a 4" screen is not even possible. Now really all we see coming is a 1gb ram iphone 5s with an 8mp camera and a fingerprint reader? LOL. Oh but you can get it in Gold. Good luck with that. I still linger around here because I hope and pray that someone at apple reads this junk and might wake up and impress us all but that doesn't seem to be happening unless I missed some member on here requesting gold to be the new apple color.
