I've noticed a trend lately that Apple has been bragging a lot about how they still generate the most App revenue despite their competitors growing faster than they are.
This is ridiculous.
Why?
Because while the competition is getting acceptance at 50% 67% or 100% more per year. Apple is stagnating. Claiming that your competition is growing faster than you but they still haven't caught up isn't a good thing. It just means that the gap is narrowing.
Apple has been a stagnant dinosaur with the iPhone 5 and the dual flash fingerprint sensor iOS 7 iPhone 5S spec bump is a pointless upgrade.
Apple knows that they are stagnating but they do not have the courage to cannibalize their own products.
The iPhone originally succeeded because it leap frogged everyone with a revolution while other manufactures stood still. Nokia and Blackberry both stood dead in the water while their market share was destroyed releasing pointless incremental upgrades. They too had major shares of the market up until they didn't.
Apple now is in the same position. For years the competition has been releasing better and better products.
Products with better cameras, larger screens and weather sealing against the elements as well as NFC for wallet and other purposes, wireless charging, etc etc.
Simply put Apple is not innovating. They are stagnating. And they don't deserve to brag that they are in 1st place because the truth is that the competition is outgrowing them at record speed.
I heard of several special features that Apple could have included in the 5S that were easily possible but were dismissed as being slightly too expensive or slightly too difficult to implement. Those are the words of a company destined for failure. The five features I heard of in particular that were dismissed for being slightly too difficult to implrement were the liquid metal case, sapphire screen, 4.2" screen in the same form factor, and higher resolution display with 9 pixels for every 4 of the previous display as well as water resistance with liquipel.
None of these things are going to happen because the people working at Apple are too scared to win and too willing to lose market share. There is no longer somebody sitting at the top who is willing to tell off the bean counters and do something great. To say, "what if?". What if Apple actually did something revolutionary? It's too bad we won't get that answer.
To take Apple's latest message to it's logical conclusion, the customers will get the same old same old, and Apple's revenue will be the same old same old.
