I thought this had been fixed...

Running Monterey 12.2
My iMac has been up for 1 Day, 18 Hours. Over that time I have delved in Apple News several times.
Right now I have been doing my early morning scroll through, reading stories, having a few tabs open.
I get a warning that I am experiencing heavy memory usage.
I see that Apple News is using 2.16 GB.

Anybody else having the same problem?

(Reported to Apple, via Feedback Assistant, if they even look at that any more...)

Added--
It is now 14 minutes later, and I am now up to 2.8 GB.

Yes, I see the same thing on an M1 Mini using Monretery 12.2. I regulary quit News and restart it when needed.

PITA

You really should be able to turn news connections off. I see via little snitch that upon boot up, news tries to connect.

News doesn't use up RAM when it is not being used. Only when I use it.
And the balance of stories it feeds me suits me better than other news feeds, which is why I use it.
And no, you cannot delete News, or any of the other apps that Apple installs. This has been dealt with extensively elsewhere on this site.
My complaint is that, since News is essentially a special purpose browser, why does it need to use up so much RAM? This is obviously a design/implementation problem, i.e. a bug.

I'm also on the new M2 and I peak at about 2gb. I think it depends on which source you're reading from bc on the home page, it only takes up 300mb but on 9to5 Mac, it goes to 600 and on the independent( with its hundreds of articles), it shoots up to 1.2Gb

I’ve seen that it keeps increasing even if it’s running in the background without any windows open, so I have to force quit the app.
