Apple today began offering refurbished versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M3 Pro and M3 Max chip options, offering the machines at a discount for the first time since their October 2023 release.

The release of M3 Pro and M3 Max models on Apple's refurbished store comes almost two weeks after the entry-level 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro first appeared on the store.

Pricing on these latest refurbished MacBook Pro models starts at $1,699 for the 14-inch M3 Pro model with 11-core CPU and 14-core GPU, a $300 discount off of the original $1,999 starting price. The 16-inch MacBook Pro starts at $2,119 for the M3 Pro chip with 12-core CPU and 18-core GPU, offering savings of $380 compared to a brand-new unit priced at $2,499.

Additional configurations with chip, memory, and/or storage space upgrades are also available, although availability will fluctuate over time. Customers looking for a specific configuration should check back often.

All of Apple's refurbished Macs are close to identical to new products. They are subject to a refurbishment process that includes full functionality testing, with any defective modules replaced, as well as a thorough cleaning and inspection. Refurbished products are eligible for AppleCare+ and have the same 14-day return period as new Apple devices.

Of course 5 days after I bought a M3 Pro base model they start selling it on the refurb site. I was debating between a M3 base with the upgraded 1TB SSD and 16GB of RAM for $1,699 or the M3 pro base new for $1,849 (education pricing)..... I could return it but with all the hassle of even buying the new one at apple it isn't worth the time to do all this IMHO.

Relax...if it was worth $1,849 to you 5 days ago, then it is still worth $1,849 to you today. Enjoy what you bought and wish enjoyment for those who acted/bought differently. Regret/remorse can ruin a perfectly wonderful machine if you let it.**

This is the corollary to the "should I wait another month or two for a newer, faster machine"...the answer is almost always "if you need/want the machine now, then buy it now".

Which is also related to the "should I get the extra RAM/SSD?"...the answer is almost always "get as much as you can afford and accept that, someday, it won't be enough"

** unless it is an Intel machine, in which case the fan noise will ruin that wonderful machine for you. 😜

Indeed. Comparison is the thief of joy.

No Vision Pro devices yet. Even though there was lots of returns. Wondering if they are selling refurbished as new?

Yes but Spending $1,699 for this same model or $120 or whatever the M3 Pro with the 12 CPU cores Vs 11 .... I could have gotten this model for $150 cheaper or get slightly more storage for like $120 more.... The hassle to even buy this laptop I probably won't ever buy from Apple directly if I am being honest. I don't Need 1TB but it's nice to have I wouldn't spend the Apple tax to upgrade the storage. I would have rather buy a portable SSD but for $120 more why not. not the $400 difference between models. The M3 Pro base with 11 Core CPU is $1,999 and the M3 pro with the 12 core cpu and 1TB is $2,399. I spent $1,849 with education pricing. Just because I could afford $1,849 Doesn't mean I shouldn't be annoyed spending it. Yes I could return it but I am already annoyed with the buying experience I probably will just buy from Bestbuy anyways. I missed a sale for this same laptop at $1,749 Since I have BestBuy Total. I was stuck with Apple because I traded in my M2 MacBook Air and already have a gift card for apple.

Just because you can spend $1,850 doesn't mean you shouldn't look for it cheaper. I can use that money elsewhere. or save it.

Reminder to anyone who's hunting for a deal in the Apple Refurb store... Be ready to pull the trigger if you see the model you want. Do all of your thinking over in advance because if you need to sleep on the decision, there's a good chance it'll be gone by the time you return.

I once missed out on a MBP I really wanted because I woke up at 2am and wanted to go back to bed more than I wanted to make the purchase. It was gone by morning. A week later, the same thing happened. I woke up at 4am, checked my phone and saw my model. This time I jumped on it.

Well, you need not harbor much remorse because the model you want has already sold out. I noticed the M3 MBP's earlier today before this article was published and even then only the M3 14" models were left.

This is also a reminder to anyone who's hunting for a deal in the Apple Refurb store to be ready to pull the trigger if you see the model you want. Do all of your thinking over in advance because if you need to sleep on the decision, there's a good chance it'll be gone by the time you return.

It's not I see it right there. Besides the point. I was just pointing out the timing lol. But to say to suck it up? Nah. If I didn't realize that Bestbuy was selling it for $1,749 I would have bought it there. I get Apple Care plus for Free with BestBuy total anyways. All in All I spent $1,949 for this Laptop before tax with Apple Care plus annual. It is what it is but if it wasn't such a hassle to use gift cards with Apple I would return this and buy it or wait for it again if I'm being honest. this isn't my only computer.

It's almost the same as buying popular concert tickets :).

Good to know. Should offer some reduction in prices compared to new ones.

Just checked the UK store and it's as dry as a bone with refurb Macs. A few 13" M1 Pro's, an M1 Air, a rack mount 2019 Pro for over 6 grand and an M2 16" for over 5 grand, and a truck load of M1 iMacs and that's your lot.
