I don’t know if anyone knows the answer to this and I’ve been looking online but haven’t been able to find an answer.

My father in law invited me to join his Apple one family plan which is great because I’m currently subscribed to Apple Music but I also have a 200 gb storage plan (I have a lot of photos and video projects). Is it possible to have an additional storage plan for myself so as not to cannabalise his?

I don't think you can. You are able to run one subscription at a time. Unless you sign in and out of your subscription and run his.

Yes, you can purchase additional storage just for yourself and still be on someone's Apple One plan. Check out the Apple website on Apple One info. I saw it there somewhere and had this very discussion with my daughter.
