So yeah, the Apple Online Store is down now. Any chance to get a Mac Mini? Probably not, but I thought it's worth posting.

What do you think? Should be at least something new as it's friday.

I recall back in 2010... after the iPhone 4 was announced, and the day before it was ready to be pre-ordered—the Apple Store was down. When it came back up, there was a surprise update to the Mac Mini (that was when it had gotten the aluminum unibody design). Perhaps Apple will do the same thing tonight, but who knows?

Nope - no new Mac Mini or iMac.
Store is back up on my iphone and the first thing I looked for was a Mac Mini update!
iPhone and iPod update only.

I don't know how often I said this, but: This ASRock Sh*** (sorry, that's only my opinion) is more than double the size of the Mini, doesn't offer any quad-core i7 chips and looks just ugly. I want a machine WITHOUT optical drive - as I don't need it, I want a unit with 4 cores, I want a unit which looks cool enough to place it on a desk and I want a computer to connect to a Thunderbolt display, so this thing is completely useless to me (and many other interested in the Mac Mini).

And you are showing why apple does not need to make a new mini..

you want a quad core they have it.

you want thunderbolt they have it.

you don't want optical they have it.


you want small they have it

so go buy a 2011 server.

for Haswell for our next mini model. you say I am nuts.

No I would be truthful .

why well here is why.

an ivy bridge quad core with better then intel 4000 graphics can't work in the current mini.

so a make the box bigger. not going to happen.


so b make an external wall wart. yeah when pigs fly. So if they make a quad core 2012 it will run hot.

plus only have with intel 4000 graphics.

the improvement over a 2011 will be next to nothing.

why bother just find a used 2011 quad. for 750 or so a month or 2 after the 2012 quad comes out. oh and a usb3 port or 2 big deal. once you used t-bolt usb3 is a cheap inferior product.

Not to hate on Microsoft, i actually really like the direction they are taking of late but windows 7 is no OS X.

My last windows PC was an very expensive gaming rig and it was a pain in the ass to get windows to work properly.

I just gave up, i do my gaming on consoles and the few PC titles i must play (SC2, D3, CIV 5 and Portal 2) have been available for the mac since i switched full time.

It was just not worth the hassle... having said that i am open to the possibily of a Windows 8 tablet if the price is very right (200$) and the reviews very good.

I was all mac for more then 9 years but windows 7 is pretty good. I still have osx snow and lion on 2 minis and I have played with mountain. I don't like mountain much as it has killed off two things I use with lion. The truth is I am getting a bit burned out in general about pc's or macs. May go back to speaker building for a while

Well, I need a Quad-Core Mini with dedicated graphics card and SSD, and both of these things aren't available in the 2011 models (well, the SSD is actually available, but horribly overpriced).

As for the sentence I made bold in the quote: Why the hell shouldn't it be possible with Ivy Bridge? They currently use a 35W i5 and a 12W graphics chip in the mid model, and coincidentally there IS a 35W Quad-Core Ivy Bridge CPU (the i7-3612qm) - and the 35W also contain the graphics chip (which obviously could be deactivated when using a dedicated GPU), which wasn't included in the Sandy Bridge TDP. So you throw these watts in for the graphics card and you get a nice GeForce GT 640M LE. No magic, just simple math.

I don't get you at all. If you don't like the Mac Mini (or Macs in general) buy whatever you want. If you are happy with what the 2011 Mini offers, just buy it. If not, don't keep talking pointless.

For me and many others the question is Mac OS or not, and not the pathetic "where do I get more power for my money" thing. It would be a hell of a lot work to switch from Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, Aperture and iWork (especially Keynote) to anything Windows has to offer, and I can guarantee you that I wouldn't be happy with it (yeah, I had enough PCs to be able to say this ...).

I actually like the Windows 8 look too, but just not for serious working. And that's the only point of a desktop computer nowadays IMHO, as an iPad or Ultrabook is good enough for anything else.
