So this all started about two weeks ago. I had to restore my iPhone 7, running 11.1.2 (I think...). I restored from an iCloud backup up. Upon finishing the restore, I tried to register my debit card in the Wallet app, and received the error message: "Invalid Card: Check the information on your card and try again."

I tried again with my debit card, after verifying the info was correct, and got the same error. I then proceeded to register my two credit cards with no issue. I looked around my banks app and website to see if there was some issue with Apple Pay or something, and found nothing. I contacted my bank directly, and they said there was nothing wrong on their end with my debit card to be causing an issue like this.

A few days later, I decided that it was time to upgrade to the iPhone X (for a variety of reasons, not related to this issue). I updated the device to 11.2, and then wiped it so I could restore it from an iCloud backup from my 7. After getting it all setup, I tried once again to register my debit card, and was met with the same error, and was successfully able to register my two credit cards again...

Now, admittedly I haven't contacted Apple yet. I have a feeling their solution is going to be to wipe my phone and start fresh, which isn't something I *really* want to do. I did also search the forums here a bit and found a thread mentioning this issue, back in 2015, but with no solution other than deleting and re-adding the cards...

Has anyone seen this issue more recently than 2015? Any ideas before I contact Apple and wipe my phone again?

Thanks, and sorry for the wall of text.

I have the same issue, but have not found a solution. Wells Fargo Debit will act like it is fine, but will not work. CC all work fine.

I have an iPhone X, but did not try to set-up on iPhone 7 Plus.

I called Apple yesterday, and they had me try Reset All Settings, which didn't fix the issue, and they elevated my issue to a Senior Advisor, who just wanted me to restore my phone and set it up as new, which I wasn't willing to do since I was at work, with no Wifi. Someone did mention that an issue with iCloud may be causing this, and I would need to get in contact with someone on that team. I didn't get that far yesterday as I had to get back to work, but I'm gonna get back in contact with them again today.

Good deal. Let us know if you find a solution. I like you are pretty much unwilling to set-up as new. I guess I could check to see if the issue is resolved but don't plan to start from new. I just haven't really researched much yet.

Could it be as easy as requesting a new debit card number from the bank? Although you’ll have to update any shopping/billing services you use with the new number it’s a ton easier than dealing with resetting up your device and losing everything.

So I spent some more time on the phone with a Senior Advisor today, and my issue still has not been resolved. They advised I get in contact with my bank as Apple Pay is working since I could successfully register two other cards.

I tried something different though. I tried to register this problematic debit card on my partner's iPhone 7, that we just upgraded to 11.2.1. Perhaps unsurprising, the debit card also failed to register on his device. A device that my Apple ID and iCloud account has never been associated with. There seemingly is something wrong with the card/bank. I am reaching out to my bank this evening to see if they can help aside from sending me a new card.

Alright, issue has been resolved, by my Bank!

I called in and explained the situation and they investigated my account a bit. Nothing unusual, verified I only had the one debit card, etc. The representative tried something new, she locked my debit card, unlocked my card, and then refreshed it. Granted, I assume that's the process you'd go through when you lose your card, but after she did that, I've been able to successfully register my debit card on my iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch!

Not sure what exactly happened, but something definitely got gunked up on the banks end. Glad I didn't have to get a new card issued.
